New additions 🐔 Sadly, I lost my beautiful Lavendar Bantums and have been looking for some ever since. Luckily, I came across @burcombes_poultry, a family run business, with a quality collection of poultry for sale. They were ever so helpful and I excitedly purchased 6 fertilised bantams eggs. A good friend, @zak_h566 kindly said that they would invcubate them for us, and we ended up with a pair of beautiful bantams. Shearing Season 🐑✂️ This year, we are the latest that we ever have been, with shearing our flock, purely due to the weather. With such a damp time, it's really put us back, however, we're working though our flock to get the job done. It was the turn of our Greyface Dartmoors. A wonderful, native, rare breed, that has a beautiful, thick, curly fleece. Some of our lambs, also had their first experience of being shorn. Shearing is purely for the welfare of our flock. At this time of year, when the weather changes, we're up against the issue of Flystrike. Basically, the sheep get maggots, which can lead to horrendous outcomes. Our aim, is to get the job done, before this becomes a problem. Interestingly, our wool then goes to a local company, that uses it to make mattresses & blankets. New Arrival 🌿 This heifer was coming along to calve, so we brought her back to the farm, to keep a closer eye on her. Things started to progress, however, things were taking a little more time than we would have liked and as a first time calver, the best option was to give a little helping hand. We were able to aid with calving and all went well. She delivered a good sized, bull calf. We put them back out into to the paddock, to dry off in the sun and to ensure that they bonded well 🐄 I love to be able to look out the window, and enjoy watching the livestock, happily grazing the paddock, simple things ❤️ #traditionalworkingfarm#hillfarming#calving#southdevons#countrylife#dartmoor#devon

Farming Rounds 🌿 A day well spent, doing one thing I love the most. Today consisted of checking and moving stock, feeding, scraping out and bedding up. All routine tasks at this time of year. We had 2 new calves born yesterday, leaving 10 of our South Devons left to calve. Come May, our herd of Galloways will start to calve on the hills also 🐮 We've almost finished the first group of ewes due to lamb, with 80-90 in country ewes left. The 400 hill sheep will then begin to lamb in the next few days 🐑 We're looking forward to brighter days, where stock can go back out into the fields and we can enjoy a slighter quieter period before harvesting can begin 🌾 #traditionalworkingfarm#hillfarming#calving#lambingseason#countrylife#dartmoor#devon
