Winter is here ❄️
This afternoon was spent bringing our cattle back to the farm, ready to be housed before the storm arrives.
The weather the past few weeks, has been very kind and has allowed us to keep the cattle out longer, which is very unusual.
We will now get into the routine of feeding up, mucking out and bedding up.

New additions 🐔
Sadly, I lost my beautiful Lavendar Bantums and have been looking for some ever since.
Luckily, I came across @burcombes_poultry, a family run business, with a quality collection of poultry for sale.
They were ever so helpful and I excitedly purchased 6 fertilised bantams eggs.
A good friend, @zak_h566 kindly said that they would invcubate them for us, and we ended up with a pair of beautiful bantams. Zak, kindly reared them for us, until they were off heat, and now, we have them settling in, back at the farm, for our guests to enjoy, adding a little glamour to the farm.

Shearing Season 🐑✂️
This year, we are the latest that we ever have been, with shearing our flock, purely due to the weather.
With such a damp time, it's really put us back, however, we're working though our flock to get the job done.
It was the turn of our Greyface Dartmoors. A wonderful, native, rare breed, that has a beautiful, thick, curly fleece.
Some of our lambs, also had their first experience of being shorn.
Shearing is purely for the welfare of our flock. At this time of year, when the weather changes, we're up against the issue of Flystrike. Basically, the sheep get maggots, which can lead to horrendous outcomes. Our aim, is to get the job done, before this becomes a problem.
Interestingly, our wool then goes to a local company, that uses it to make mattresses & blankets.
Wool is a great product and should be encouraged to be used more, hence, this is something that we're very proud to be a part of.

New Arrival 🌿
This heifer was coming along to calve, so we brought her back to the farm, to keep a closer eye on her.
Things started to progress, however, things were taking a little more time than we would have liked and as a first time calver, the best option was to give a little helping hand.
We were able to aid with calving and all went well. She delivered a good sized, bull calf.
We put them back out into to the paddock, to dry off in the sun and to ensure that they bonded well 🐄
I love to be able to look out the window, and enjoy watching the livestock, happily grazing the paddock, simple things ❤️

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, there's no other place I'd wish to call home. Absolutely glorious ☀️

We are located on the rolling hills of Dartmoor, with easy riding to great winding roads, and not far from the beautiful coastline either.
