As some of you may know Eileen and I are leaving Skye this summer after 21 years in Ord and retiring to Nairn just east of Inverness. It has been a huge pleasure for all of those years running our self-catering cottage, the Hirsel on Skye, hosting visitors from all over the world. Many have come as guests and left as friends.

But with our departure in August there is some great news to announce and that is our house Tigh a Chiobair and the Hirsel have now been sold to new owners Dave and Emma who are making the move from England to live here permanently. The best news is that we are delighted to say that the Hirsel will continue to be a self-catering property and all being well will reopen for bookings from 6th September 2025.

In the meantime for it's business as usual with a full calendar of bookings up until the end of July.

If you are planning a holiday later this year and beyond please email [email protected] or message through this page. Dave and Emma look forward to welcoming you.

The website www.thehirsel-on-skye.com is packed full of information about the cottage, Ord and the magical Isle of Skye.

Whilst it's sad to leave our lovely home and cottage after all these years, it's time to slow down a little and enjoy a belated retirement.

We wish Dave and Emma all the very best for the future and most importantly Eileen and I would like to sincerely thank every single person from far and wide for choosing to stay at the Hirsel from those heady days early in 2004.

It's been a great adventure!

With our best wishes.

0344 this morning and the partial lunar eclipse reached its peak on a cloudless night. This was also the harvest moon, one of four supermoons this year but on this occasion only 4% of the moon's disc was covered in darkness by the umbra shadow. You will have to wait until August 2026 when a whopping 96% of the surface will be covered, weather permitting.
