Just a quick warning for you all - I'm very, very careful about who has my email address and use an old Gmail account as a throwaway but even then I've had a daily message from "HMRC" telling me I've overpaid my tax. Obviously this is a scam so remember that the real HMRC will never contact you via email!

Time is nearly up for submitting personal tax returns. If you've received a notice to submit one, you must even if you have nothing to put in it! I think we'll all be glad when 1st February arrives.

The end of another tax year! Why not do your accountant a favour and start getting your books together now? The sooner you get your tax return in, the sooner you know what you'll have to pay. Just a reminder to those of you who have been sent a request to submit a tax return - you must submit one if HMRC have asked for one. In the good old days you didn't pay a fine if there was no tax to pay but now there's a £100 fine regardless. You have until 31st January!
