We have late availability in the Pines lake exclusive lodge from tomorrow for a midweek or week. We were glad to help out Clive this morning with some pics of this 29lb 2oz mirror which is one of the fish that is flying after stocking a couple of years ago at 17lb 12. The main lake has also produced a nice fully scaled this morning- pics to follow. So we are hoping to see a few more on the back of a tough week at Blackthorn. Well done Clive! Give us a shout if you have another!! π£π€π
Checking the oxygen levels very early in the morning does have its plus side. Pines lake exclusive venue on a misty start to the day, which turned out to be a hot one. www.blackthornfishery.co.uk
What a morning!! π
Grabbed the opportunity for an early morning walk around the lakes while checking the Oxy levels. Itβs one of our favourite times of the year, as the seasons are changing.
We have some late availability this weekend on the main lake .
Private Messages us via our page if youβre interested in a visit π
A quick tour around the Pines lake and its luxury lodge while the sun is out!
The lake has matured a lot since our last update.
Amid the Chaos find somewhere that could be your sanctuary.
Exclusively yours when booking a stay with us at Blackthorn π£π
Have a great weekend all!
The seasons are on the change here at Blackthorn. Summer is drifting away and itβs definitely feeling autumnal. With it brings darker looking fish, cosy nights in the cabin and early morning musts over the lake. Alex has put in the effort this week and was rewarded earlier this afternoon with this stunning apple slice mirror caught at 34.12 on a baitroom deep six wafter. We have 3 dates left in September- Private message the page (not in comments) if you are thinking of visit before the temperatures drop π£
4 fish for Tony over the weekend in the Original Cabin 24,27,30,33. Great angling during some tough conditions.
We have availability in this cabin at the beginning of august. Drop us a Private Message (not in comments) if you would like to book a fishing break in a lakeside cabin. Suitable for 2 people one fishing. π
Carp eggs for the stock pond
During spawning we got a bit βDavid Attenboroughβ and managed to catch one of the high 30βs on camera while we harvested some of the eggs for the stock pond. Interesting stuff for us. Just gives you an idea of how many thousands of eggs are released by the fish in a couple of days. No doubt the perch in the lake are having a field day controlling their numbers. But at least in the stock pond, some have a good chance of coming through π π
Spawning 2024
The fish nearly always spawn the week of the 17th June on the main lake. Not sure why, but they seem well trained to go in our closed period. This year we had a couple of 4 degree night temps which delayed them by nearly a week.
It gives them a break and us time to catch up on maintenance around the fishery.
We have bought a few batches of males over the last 4 years and this year spawning seemed to be more intense than ever. So hopefully the ratio of males to females is right.
The weather was also perfect for a couple of days with 25+ temps in the day and 14 at night.
Seeing 30βs and 40βs demolish the Reedβs and thrash the lake to a foam never gets less spectacular for us to see.
#blackthornfishery
We have been closed for just over 3 weeks to let the fish spawn in peace and giving them as much pellet and boilie as they could clear each day. While closed we have the mammoth task of cramping all the maintenance, lodge redecorating stoning up the paths, cutting down any unsafe trees, emptying septic tanks, painting exterior rails etc, hedge cutting and even a bit of hedge sculpting, deep cleaning all the lodges which involves taking pretty much everything out an, cleaning and putting it all back in again. The fish soawned a week later than they normally do as we had a few cold nights, but thankfully they go to plan for us again. Ben got married (congrats Ben and Kate!) just before we closed and came back today refreshed ready to open the gates next Monday. Where Iβm now looking forward resting my shoulder after shoveling 15 tonne of stone and chopping anything with leaves that looked out of place and powerwashing anything that would stay still long enough! Lots of help from good friends and some great local businesses. Iβll post some of the spawning action when I get 5. If youβre looking for a lakeside carp fishing holiday, we do have a few dates in the original and East luxury lodge. Pines lake and our 2 angler lodges on the main lake are full until October. The diaries are also open for next year. π π£
