For the 4th year running Otley will host the exciting and ever-growing Wildlife Arts Festival from Friday 25th – Sunday 27th October.

As always, the core of the festival is the free exhibition of wildlife art and photography at Otley Courthouse from 10am until 4pm on the Saturday, plus a variety of stalls by local wildlife organisations. The festival showcases local talent whilst engaging people with the wonderful world of wildlife.

Each year the festival has grown in both scope and size, with the organisers, local charity Wildlife Friendly Otley, really pushing the boundaries on what they can achieve to make it truly memorable.

The organisers are very excited about the two ticketed events on Friday and Saturday night. Friday brings award-winning author, journalist, and TV presenter Kate Bradbury to the Courthouse with an entertaining talk on how to create habitats for wildlife in our own gardens.

On Saturday the charity’s very own patron, George McGavin, is back by popular demand with a lively examination of the world of wildlife. George is the well known and loved television presenter, entomologist, and environmental campaigner. Booking for both evening events is now open at www.otleycourthouse.org.uk and costs £12 per ticket.

In addition to the ticketed events and exhibition, the festival will be running free talks, workshops, and other events for both young and old in and around the town. A poetry event ‘Wildlife in Words’ will take place at the Labour Rooms on Sunday 27th with a workshop at 2pm followed by a main event at 3.15pm. This Sunday is the last of the month which means it's not only Farmer's Market in Market Place but also the Craft Market at the Courthouse. The former starts at 9am with the latter an hour later. Both finish by 1pm.

Otley Carnival weekend ahead!

This Saturday (June 15th) is the third in June which means it's time for Otley Carnival - the town's celebration of the local community - families, schools, businesses and local organisations - all coming together for an extravaganza of family friendly fun!
Carnival day starts at 12.30pm with a parade of decorated walking and driven floats travelling through the centre of Otley. The parade then joins the Carnival Field which is free to attend and filled with rides, stalls, food, entertainment, music and much, much more…

Otley Music Festival 2024 starts this Friday (May 31st) at various venues around town. The celebration of local talent runs until Sunday June 9th, while Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage (pictured) next Saturday (June 8th) at Otley Parish Church are said to be one of the highlights.

Wow

Take a look at Horse Chestnut trees as the ‘conkers’ start to form. The conkers only form towards the bottom of the flowering stalk. This is because the upper flowers are male only, the ones in the middle both male and female, and the ones at the bottom just female. The male flowers don’t form fruits which is why the top of the flowering stalk are devoid of conkers.

The Reception class at Westgate primary are holding stalls on the 2nd of June here at The Fleece. They will be set up outside selling things they've either made or grown. Come help support them you never know they might appear on future episodes of the Apprentice or Dragons Den!!!
