Our last morning walk to Twin cove beach … feeling sad 😔

Blue…my favourite colour and there is no shortage of it here on this slow island. Whilst chatting to the local shop owner this morning getting our supply of drinking water , I learned that Sunday is a day of worship here, there are so many churches and after church they go to the beach with their families. Even the local radio station had gospel songs and sermons the whole day which we played whilst in search of the next beautiful beach! There are 135 beaches on Eleuthera and none disappoint !

My heart always sinks when I get a message from an airline to say that they have cancelled a clients flight on the day of departure. This happens far too often these days due to weather, strikes, technical and operational issues. The client was rebooked by the airline but downgraded from Premium to economy class, booked out of a different airport and at a very unsociable arrival time.

This is when it helps to book via a travel agent.... I was able to look at all the options and get her rebooked in Premium Economy class on an alternative airline at a better time, ticket reissued, check in done and she is on her way.

Travellers can now look forward to the Schengen Area’s digital visa coming online in 2026 after last week’s announcement that it had received the green light.

Along with the EU Council approving the digitalisation of Schengen visa applications on November 13, it is also doing away with in-person visa appointments at consulates, and passport stickers will be replaced with cryptographically signed barcodes that are deemed safer.

As per the EU Regulation on the Digitalisation of the Visa Procedure, “In 2026, the EU visa application platform and the digital visa would coexist. After the end of the transition period (end 2028), all visa applications would be lodged online through the EU visa application platform (except a few exceptional cases for which a paper procedure would remain possible),” reports SchengenVisaInfo.

While travellers who have applied for a Schengen visa in the past can now have their application processed online, those who are either applying for the first time, have a new travel document, or expired biometric data, will need to appear in-person for visa appointments.

It is estimated that between 22 and 25 million visa applications will be processed through the new platform by the time it launches.

“This is without a doubt a revolution in the sector of EU visa applications, which will completely reshape travellers’ experience on getting a Schengen visa, making it not only less expensive, but also less time and energy consuming, and thus less stressful. The platform will also eliminate the possibility of rejection for applying at the wrong embassy,” comments Besart Bajrami, founder of SchengenVisaInfo and VisaGuide.World.

Mozambican carrier LAM will launch direct flights between Maputo and Cape Town from November 22. The schedule for the flights is not yet available.

And in other news, it has announced December 12 as the start of its thrice-weekly direct flights from Maputo to Lisbon.

Both services will be flown using aircraft owned by Fly Modern Ark, the company appointed to perform business restructuring on the airline, reports clubofmozambique.com.

TM703 departs LIS on Tuesday and Thursday at 16h35 and arrives MPM at 05h05 the next day.
