Stanley Stewart’s Book “In the Empire of Genghis Khan: A Journey Among Nomads” is a book that has drawn many to the Steppes. It was a great pleasure to collaborate with our friends to host Stanley’s return visit to Mongolia after so many years. Such a relief that the country and all that we put together for him and the epic photographer delivered. .writer

Happy Tsagaan Sar and Losar Bey Tashi Delek! Today all of our team are celebrating the beginning of the year of the Rabbit.

Many of you will recognise Tuul in this photo who has been guiding for us for over a decade. Her husband Batbaatar has been one of our main drivers for nearly as long. Their table is a fine example of the special feast table of white foods including fat tailed sheep.

It is not too late to experience immersion in such rich cultural New Year traditions as this time next month is Nauryz (Kazakh New Year) and two families we know with Eagles have offered to host guests during it! DM for more details!

Ambitious, crazy projects are only made possible when you collaborate with incredible people! There are countless such people behind the project that is now coming to end. It will be a few years later before I can tell you more about it but as I board to head home, a quick selection of some of the people I have been lucky enough to thank in person.

Twenty years ago today! James and I first went to Mongolia to film the Naadam festival. We fell in love with the country then and there.. and so begun Panoramic Journeys!

The photo quality reveals how long ago these images were taken but many of these scenes look very similar today. Sadly the hat hasn’t aged as well as James!

BHUTANESE NEWS! As the sun set over Bhutan this week, the country saw not only the successful completion of our first film project in the country since 2020, but also the end of the 5 day quarantine requirements! From September Bhutan will be fully open again for guests (without the current requirement to quarantine for 24hrs on arrival). There is a new dawn ahead of us!

We’re honoured that the team asked us to arrange a shoot for their series that showcases the extraordinary ambition of this 10 year initiative. You can see it on (this evening) and also on and . Featuring Prince William, Sir David Attenborough, and a host of amazing planet-saving innovators – this is an important series that we highly recommend you watch.

Thank you especially to our talented team in Mongolia who saved over 100 tonnes of carbon by shooting this without the need for any UK crew!

THINK GLOBAL - ACT LOCAL - that is what these boys were thinking when they decided to sell ice-creams to raise funds for food for families in Myanmar. Thanks to the local farm-shop (Diddly Squat Farm Shop and Jeremy Clarkson) and Hooray's British Gelato Kitchen, they are on target to raise enough to buy food for 2500 days. Please consider donating to the same important project - https://gofund.me/8a1b3ad0.

Since the 1st of February, we have been worried sick about the situation in Myanmar. We have been following reports coming out of the country and talking with our friends.

Right now it appears that the military are gearing up for a crackdown in Yangon tomorrow. Clips show large numbers of military vehicles moving into the city. Internet will be down 1AM-12PM (11hours). Curfew is now 4AM-8PM. There are reports of roads being blocked including the whole road between American and Korean embassies in Yangon. This area has been one of the most crowded places with protesters in previous days. Military vehicles have been painted white and marked as police vehicles.

The world needs to watching. If you are able to help to project the stories of those on the front line of this crisis, please see the Myanmar page of our website for a document of story ideas.

Happy Tsagaan Sar and Happy Losar!

Mongolian New Year celebrations are under way. Celebrated two months after the first new moon following the winter solstice, this festivity symbolizes the coming of spring and the re-awakening of nature. It is a time to unite families and friends, respect elders and introduce young people to their wider family and Mongolian culture. This year the celebrations are toned down due to the pandemic, but the sentiment and strength of their cultural identity is stronger than ever. https://www.panoramicjourneys.com/Know/A-Traditional-Tsagaan-Sar

Meanwhile our friends in Bhutan are celebrating Losar and preparing for traditional Puja rituals and feasting. Our thoughts are with all of our dear friends at this time.

Wishing you every happiness and success for the year ahead.

This evening those of you in the UK will have the opportunity to enjoy the 200th film project that we have worked on in Mongolia! Apparently within this epic David Attenborough series, the shoot that we managed to pull off was the most challenging and extreme. We are proud of our amazing team who arranged an array of crazy logistics in temperatures as low as minus 35 degrees Celsius.

We are excited announce a reunion of the team involved for an ONLINE BEHIND THE SCENES EXCLUSIVE in aid of the Wild Camels. This will be the first of many virtual offerings that we are lining up for those of you who are missing connecting with the wider world. Please message us to express interest.

Episode 3 of “Weather” airing on Sunday 17th January at 8pm on and streaming on BBC iPlayer

One of the eternal delights of visiting Myanmar/Burma is travelling by boat through the water gardens and stilt villages of Inle Lake. Daily lives undertaken on the water; paddle beyond the famous one-legged rowing fishermen to meet the farmers cultivating tomatoes, beans, squash and more on floating water-hyacinth rafts. Would you dare to walk on these wobbly floating fields?

Happy Losar to all our friends in Bhutan and Nepal and Happy Tsaagan Sar to our friends in Mongolia. The new year celebrations of Tibetan Buddhism are marked by families travelling to come together to dine, share and see in what will be the Year of the Rat.

Best wishes, happiness and success for the New Year from us all

It’s not everyday that you get a chance to do something as mindblowing as this. We have a guest looking for one or two intrepid explorers to join him on a mission to deliver salt to the Tsaatan reindeer herders in remote Northern Mongolia – later this month! Trek (or ski) across snowy passes from frozen Lake Khovsgol to the remote camps of the Tsaatan people, camping in the wilderness as you go. End your epic journey by visiting the famous Ice Festival on the lake. Feb 25th to Mar 7th 2020. Send us a message if you’d like to know more or if you are up for being in the loop when opportunities like this come round….

To all our friends around the world we wish you a Happy Christmas, Hanukkah, Solstice, Zarathosht Diso or simply Holidays.

We hope that time with friends or family is joyous and, if you happen to be rounding up your flock in the Altai Mountains of Mongolia, that you are warm and safe.

Ngapali beach, the perfect place to end a journey in Myanmar. With white sand, palm trees and clear turquoise waters that stretch more than 15-miles up this beautiful coastline, it is the perfect place to swim, kayak, snorkel, scuba dive, explore local villages, or simply switch off and recharge your batteries.

Wonderful hotels are interspersed with traditional fishing villages resulting in a relaxed and authentic cultural vibe. Ox-drawn carts amble along the shore and fishermen draw their boats onto the beach to deliver direct to the restaurants and hotels.

Festival time in Bhutan. Today is day two of the three day Thimphu Tshechu, one of the biggest festivals in the country. Held in honor of the great Guru Rinpoche, who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan, tshechu's bring together both locals and tourists from miles around to join the crowds at the celebrations. Swipe for the vivid colours and festivities.

Distant Lands ~ Close Up. The Kazakh Eagle Hunters live a nomadic life with their herds in the Altai mountains, far western Mongolia. Moving with the seasons and training their eagles for hunting and competing.

Talented cameraman Toby Strong, pictured in Mongolia during the filming of One Strange Rock. During the five shoots he has done with us in Mongolia he has been moved by the stories of how climate change is impacting on the nomads.

Catch his interview on BBC World Service where he talks about how climate change is affecting many of the places he's visited and the people he's met: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w172wyj9zlbjq2p

The flight into Bhutan is a visual treat! Epic views from the left hand side of the plane over the dramatic Himalayas make for a memorable start to your Bhutanese adventure.

Our founders met 20 years ago this week. Here is a photo of James and Karina way back in 2002 when they first fell in love with Mongolia. Since then they have been enabling others to discover this timeless land of nomads and natural wilderness for themselves.

How would you watch the sunrise? Floating above ancient Bagan during a dawn hot air balloon flight, or high above the clouds after a night camping at a wilderness campsite in Bhutan.
