Back in October we attended the Torbay Fishing Festival Prize Giving to collect a couple awards for the visiting anglers who fished aboard Our Joe. The prize haul included Best fish from Charter Boat, Best fish by a visitor and Best Bream along with several smaller prizes and to top it off I collected the Top Charter Skipper trophy again for 2024. Well done to all involved and to all who won prizes, here’s to Torbay Fishing Festival 2025. !!!

Down at the boat today putting extra lines out in prep for the weekends weather I had to remember to shorten the outriggers as well.
I wonder if they’ll be back out before I stop in a couple of weeks time.

Another little project I’ve been doing this season was testing the new lures out for Lazy Lures.

These lures have worked very well for us in the shallower inshore marks especially for Bass. I haven’t used them enough on the deeper marks and wrecks to give a thorough opinion but I will say they have always caught fish so far.

I’ve always been a fan of lures that have little pattern and generally stick to one colour each with few exceptions. So you can see why I was excited about trying these out for Freddie at Lazy Lures

Yesterday aboard Our Joe, back to Mid Channel Wreck Fishing.

It’s a nice change between the Bluefin Charters to get back drifting over the mid channel wrecks. An enjoyable day afloat, good bunch of guys aboard and plenty of decent fish to go around.

I have dates available for trips between now and 6th December when I’m finishing the 2024 season.

A bit of East Wind today has kept me ashore, giving me an opportunity to reflect on the 2024 season and what remains of it.

Something I’ve been working on this year is testing out several different lures for various suppliers. One of which was the new JOKER jigs and lures for Matthew Forrester.

These have been tested on many of my wrecking trips this year by both me and my customers, and I have recently just gone through the last one!

I’ve always been a fan of the smaller lures for deep wreck fishing, especially when the fish are feeding hard on sprats. Personally, I’ve always wanted more lures with a smaller hook set in them. The Apex Minnows fit the bill as my style of lure, with a good catch rate up there with the best of them. The Jigs available fish just as well as they look with quality assist hooks too.

They are another local company to TorBay that we are lucky to have on our doorstep in assisting the anglers travelling here from all over the country to fish.

Two charters later and I’m now fully confident in my lines again.

To think as well as a world class Bluefin Tuna fishery on our doorstep we also have a good infrastructure of Big Game Tackle in TorBay to go with it. What fishing dreams are made of. 👌

Mid Channel Wreck fishing last weekend.

The weather forecast wasn’t very accurate and small tides weren’t favourable but the fishing was good for most.

Nice to see some squid on the wrecks again, now is the time to target them! We couldn’t get away from the Bass and the pollack was steady.

I still can’t believe I’ve just fished the first ever UK Bluefin Tuna Champs.

Some pictures of how the day went for us abaord Gadget with David Mordecai & Mark.

I realy enjoyed jumping aboard a private boat for this comp. Officially we came 4th overall beating plenty of local charter boat but not all! The highlight for me was Dave’s tuna winning the biggest fish prize @ 83inches.

Looking forward to next year already. . . Maybe in Devon!
