It's almost deer rutting time in Martindale 🦌🍂
We are the prefect base to come and see them in action and hear the roars echo around the valley.

Last nights walk around the block. It is a lovely little walk that takes around half an hour from the front door. You can just see Winter Crag in the second photo as the white House!

We had a visitor this morning, he came through the garden, across the river and onto the green. He paused a while and let off a few roars then made his way back to the church and the Fell , back to the action!
I watched him from the bedroom window then quickly shot out to get a quick snap before he disappeared again.

The Bracken is turning from green to rusty red, Red Deer are starting to gather and the Stags are starting to ROAR!

St Martin's Church is just across the green from Winter Crag. The Yew tree is thought to be over 1300 years old and was used by the famous bowmen of Martindale to make arms.. The Bell in the church is over 500 years old with an inscription that has never been able to be translated.
There is a Roman altar at the front of the church. This altar was found way up on the Fell (High Street) in an ancient worship area close to the Roman road that passes along the fell tops.

We are now open for business and welcome any enquiries!

We have some nights available from the middle of August and September.

The house undergoes a thorough clean and sanitise between guests so you can relax knowing you are coming to a clean environment.

Up to two dogs are welcome and we even have a paddock if you wanted to bring your pony for a trekking holiday!
