Looking for a new walking route this year? How about the Eamont Way, a 5.5 mile walking route from Penrith Railway Station to Pooley Bridge Steamer Pier.

The route follows the course of the river Eamont, crossing it twice. It starts with a series of signed pedestrian crossings from the railway station to the edge of the town, then follows a series of signed footpaths, bridleways and ‘permitted paths’ to exit at ‘The Sun Inn’ in Pooley Bridge. From there it is less than 1/2 mile to the pier for the Ullswater Steamers where onward lake travel to Howtown and Glenridding is on offer and onward from Glenridding to Aira Force.

You could get the bus back into Penrith for just £3 single fare!

Snowdrop Weekends begin this weekend, 1 & 2 February, at Acorn Bank - with a programme of family fun, talks and crafts 🌱

After a long winter, drifts of lovely snowdrops transform the woodland – a sure sign that spring is on its way. On Saturdays and Sundays until 16 March, wrap up warm and take a winter wander through swathes of snowdrops that carpet the woodland beside the historic Crowdundle Beck.

Plus talks on red squirrels (23 February & 9 March), block printing, windowsill salad seed sowing and den building. And, on 15 February, there's the chance to join a nature connection walk or a meditation session with Wild Soul.

🎉WAHEY!!!🎉🎉🥳🍾Today I was informed that my recent film ‘Cumbria’s Red Squirrels’ is shortlisted for ANOTHER award at the Royal Television Society! 🏆🤯🐿️🎥

The documentary is shortlisted for ‘Cinematography’!! 😊🎥

I’m stunned!!

So, the red scamps film is in two categories at the Royal Television Society Awards; ‘Factual Documentary’ and ‘Cinematography’ 👍👍🐿️🐿️🐿️🎥

I’m a bit lost for words to be honest! 🥹🥹

Sue told me off for having not booked tickets for the awards do as it’s on Saturday 15th February 🤣 So, I quickly went to book me and Sue seats to discover the booking system was closed! 😮

So, I then contacted the RTS and thankfully they told me they’d put a stop on bookings cause they’d noted I hadn’t put in a booking and it’s all sorted now 😊👍

I tell ya what…bugger me…what a journey it’s been with the red scamps film eh!!! 🤣🤣🥹👍🐿️🎥

I can’t recall what year it was I decided and tentatively begun producing the documentary. But despite lots of challenges, ups and downs, blood, sweat and tears and learning how to film and tell a story featuring wildlife (a first for me!!) it all turned out great eh!!

I recall after the huge success of my documentary featuring Helvellyn and receiving lots of offers from production companies for me to direct and produce programmes for them. I was extremely touched and excited.

In fact, I wasn’t far off to agreeing to produce a TV series I produced a concept for!

Then suddenly….I pulled back.

Crazy innit! Sue was excited cause for once in my career I’d be paid well and have a crew 🤣

I remember calling the TV production company I was close to going ahead with my TV series idea to apologise as I’ve changed my mind.

I explained there was another passion project film I want to do and felt there was an extremely important conservation story to tell.

The lady asked “Is this anything to do with red squirrels at all, Terry?”

“Aye! How do you know???”

“Because your social media has been littered with images of red squirrels of late!” 🤣🤣🤣🐿️

I fully understood by pulling back and going alone with no funding raised I was taking a big gamble!! Sue was mortified but eventually understood.

I just HAD to follow my heart!!

If I invest my heart, time and energy into owt, I’m full on in beyond 100%! And as I say, I felt I had a very important story to tell which I hoped would appeal to all ages and backgrounds and make a wider audience fall in love and care for our precious native red scamps.

Along the way, many folk put a lot of faith and trust in me too. Many had no idea what I was up to or envisaged but I always light heartedly say “Trust me! I know what’s coming, it’s all in here.” whilst gesturing to my head 😊😂

Well….it looks like I’ll have to pay Rusty & Co another visit soon and let them know their stars continue to shine bright and they have been shortlisted in another category! 🤞🏆🎉🐿️🎥
