On holiday on the glorious Isle of Wight -

No better pictorial way to demonstrate the visual impact of poor post planting aftercare. Fifteen Betula pendula *Silver birch planted last year at considerable cost, now completely dead.

Is it just arborists who see this?

Does it give a negative impression to members of the public visiting the business?

All for the price of a wander round with a watering can or hosepipe, first thing in the morning 🤔💦🌳

Before & After - Betula pendula, aka Silver Birch, a lovely tree providing welcoming shade in the summer and contrasting colour in the winter. These trees are often subject to heavy reductions or ‘topping’ by untrained tree cutters, this leads to future decay pockets forming and dense re-growth (in two seasons you’ll have a taller tree than you started with!) If you own one, show it some love and use a trained professional

After 14 years working as an Arborist in Worcester City and 5 years teaching Arboriculture & Horticulture at Pershore College I’ve decided to set up the Tree and Garden Aftercare Company. Passionate about trees and with a keen eye for detail I aim to provide the following services:

Independent specialist advice on tree care. Trees are becoming increasingly susceptible to pests and diseases, I undertake individual or group tree inspections and hazard evaluation. I can present you with written reports, advising you on any defects and remedial actions that may be required.

Lawn and hedge aftercare and maintenance. Your spare time is important, let me undertake your complete lawn and hedge aftercare. Lawns treated to promote good growth, free from competing weeds, lawns regularly mowed and hedges expertly cut, all cuttings taken away if required.

Advice on tree selection, planting and aftercare. Let me help you select the most appropriate tree for your garden, factors such as tree form, water uptake, soil characteristics and soil pH are all taken into account, giving the very best chance for successful establishment.

Tree works - Formative pruning, crown lifting, selective limb removal, crown reductions and complete removals, all undertaken by skilled, qualified Arborists, working to BS3998 2010 standards.

It's all very well planting 1000's of trees but you need to factor in pro-active aftercare, especially regular watering.

Campaign groups brand it an "environmental disaster" as the saplings are having to be replanted.
