Stay safe guys.
SHOCKING: VIOLENT ATTACK ON ELDERLY KIRKCALDY DRIVER WHO HAD THE CHEEK TO ASK FOR HIS FARE!
PHTM was contacted today by John Laidlaw of Treble Twenty Taxis Kirkcaldy. He wanted to share this story of a recent horrific and violent attack on one of his drivers as a warning to other members of our trade.
John said “ My driver, Paul Dowson 64, was sent to pick up a single male passenger just before midnight on Halloween night. At the destination address, when Paul asked for the fare, the passenger in a drink- and-drug-fuelled-frenzied attack grabbed him by the throat, pushed him into the back of his seat and rained a number of punches at his face and body, pummelling him like a punch bag.”
There was no reason for the horrific attack, not even theft; just a pure brutal assault on a defenceless elderly driver.
The police were called they checked the firms dispatch system and arrested the vicious thug at the destination address. He was kept in the cells over the weekend and is now out on bail.
Let’s hope when he goes to court the judge gives him the maximum sentence he deserves.
The driver, Paul was taken to hospital but was discharged next day. Whilst recovery from such an extreme beating has taken some time, thankfully there was no permanent damage and brave Paul, with the support of Treble Twenty and his work colleagues, is now back driving his cab.
PHTM is reminding all drivers, particularly as the festive season approaches to please be vigilant and careful who you let in your vehicle.
Whilst we are well aware that times are very tough – install CCTV if you can and if in doubt, please refuse the fare … better to be safe, and get home to your family at the end of your shift, than sorry....
