Action for Francis MW on the Inver and Kirkaig. Francis was fishing in ultra low conditions a month or so ago. Using a micro hitch he had over 10 fish come for the fly on his best day. Nice fishing Francis. Thankfully, the rivers have had a wee bump in levels since then and there has been a great run of fish. We just need the sun to disappear and the rain to set I and things will get interesting. We still have availability for both rivers so do get in touch if you would like a cast.

Nerves of steel required when you can see all of the action!
Ghillie Adam B again on the camera, many thanks for the footage Adam. Do get in touch if you are interested in fishing either the Inver or Kirkaig.

Rivers Inver and Kirkaig head ghillie and river manager Cameron K with a quick release. The single most important thing, whether you are using a trout rod or a 15 footer, is to play fish as hard as possible in these conditions. Rods are made to bend, play them hard, release them quickly! We do have gaps on the Inver and Kirkaig and the rods are picking away for the conditions but when it rains it will be 🔥!! Please let it rain! Drop us a line for availability.

Yes! A first fly caught salmon for seven year old Thomas! 👏👏
It was a cooler day in the West yesterday and the fish was one of three caught in 20 mins on a micro silver stoat from the Lower Inver. Surprising numbers creeping in, and right through the system, even with very low water.

A lovely pic from on his recent visit to the Inver and Kirkaig. We think it nicely illustrates the fact that there is more to fishing than catching fish. Thanks for sharing the pic Ben. On the subject of fish, and we all like to catch them if we can, I can report that there are grilse showing in the sea and, whilst the North of Scotland desperately needs rain, there is the occasional fishy sneaking through. Well done Jonathan I and ghillie Adam, shown here with a lovely fish in tricky conditions. Early and late, and you might be surprised and do get in touch for availability.

FIRST FISH! The Brora got its season up and running yesterday with local rod Jim W hitting silver in the Well. Fittingly for the Brora it was caught on a Willie Gunn conehead and the fish was estimated at 12lb. The picture is of the fish in question being released, what a great and unusual picture of a spring salmon! Well done Jim.

A fish making an unsurprisingly rapid getaway from 2020. Perhaps the spring will offer the first opportunity to cast a fly? We have an excellent opening for lodge and fishing in mid-April. Too soon? Perhaps, but perhaps not, and we must look forward with optimism. The rivers will almost certainly be open and my chief concern would be travel restrictions and the number of households permitted in lodge accommodation. For this reason it would be the perfect single household week. Do get in touch for more detail. Festive wishes from the Sporting Lets team.

A sight that all spate river fishers dream of. The Brora finishes on 15th Oct and will be bang on this week. Sink 1/2 and a big Willie Gunn, surely a fish a cast!! We have had a cancellation, 3 or 4 rods for the 12th, 13th and 14th.

LATE CANCELLATION
Due to the ongoing menace that is Covid an international party has had to pull out of the w/c 27th Sep at Glencalvie. Daily stalking for 2 rifles, the last 3 days of the fishing season and a once in a lifetime opportunity if you can move at short notice. Please get in touch if you are interested.

Gibby B finding success using a muddler/stoats tail combo on Loch an Easgaich which is part of the Upper Inver beat. A fishers favourite and a great asset to the river in low water. Loch salmon just love a bit of surface disturbance. Still more than enough time to have a cast before season end.

Is the wait finally over? I never like to predict a spate until I can see it with my own eyes but there are more and more raindrops featuring on weather maps for the North West. If the rain does indeed fall then next week might be the start of a special few closing weeks. We have daily availability on the spectacular Inver and Kirkaig (the pic is of the Kirkaig’s Otter pool with a nice water running a year or two ago) and 3 day and weekly lets available on the Carron and Brora with further openings across half a dozen more rivers. As an additional positive I can report that midge numbers are beginning to fall away due to the cold nights and no one will miss them when they are gone. Lastly please note that sadly I do not have mystic powers and if the weather does not deliver the forecast rain then Northern rivers will remain low and conditions pretty tough but a day on the river is never a day wasted.

A bonny Highland scene. 2 above on the Helmsdale at a low compensation level. Midges have had a good summer.

Decent water and a sight for sore eyes. All northern/western fishers are now praying for a spate. Temps are beginning to drop away, which is a big positive, and when we get water it is going to be all systems go. This is the Cave pool on the Farrar (a trib of the Beauly) and the Farrar does not have to wait for rain because as it is a hydro river it has guaranteed water and a weekly freshet. JFI on the rod but this one escaped. Next time.

A little grilse in the rain. Looking at the outlook I think that water temps will have now peaked and as they drop away fishing across Scotland should start to heat up. Some rain in the North would also help!

We have had a late cancellation across beats on both the Inver and Kirkaig in the w/c 7th Sept. Sometimes there is more to fishing than fishing and both of these rivers feed the soul. The Inver has had a really good run of fish this year, although like most Northern rivers August has been tough, and so when temperatures start to drop away the fishing should start to really fire. The Kirkaig has perhaps not seen the volume of fish that the Inver has had but there are always some big ones about and they will be beginning to wake. Drop us a line for detail.

The Sporting Lets team have an unrivalled understanding of the rhythms of Scottish field-sports and a close relationship with over 100 Scottish Estates. While demand remains strong for more traditional sporting activities such as hind stalking, a week’s fishing, or a sporting lodge, Scotland and its Estates have a lot more to offer.

A Scottish holiday is now about more than just the sport; with experience led holidays increasingly popular.

That is why we have rebranded our leisure offering as Ossian Experiences; offering a wider range of extraordinary experiences across Scotland. We will be bringing together fieldsports and experience led destinations, as well as boutique sales and acquisitions, all under one roof.
