Here’s a collection of some of the finest beaches in the world….they are all places I have visited during the last week during a familiarisation tour with in preparation for tours to Orkney and the Outer Hebrides later this year….

I won’t name them, anyone who has ventured into this wild and remote corner of North West Europe will recognise them instantly…unless they flew by on the NC500 searching for the next “must see” place!

If you come here looking for warm water, constant hot sunshine, palm trees and beach cafes….and an endless procession of restaurants, hotels and townships…then you’ll soon discover that you are 1000 miles north of where you should be….but if you come here in search of stunningly beautiful scenery featuring endless miles of white sand, sea stacks, jaw dropping cliff scenery and barely a soul in site…then welcome to paradise!

It's about that time of year when we are all starting to look forward to some greener colours in the Highlands.....
This waterfall, in a remote glen in the North West Highlands, is particularly beautiful in late Spring...which is enhanced by the fact that there is never anyone else there...😊

One of the most scenic places to experience a Caledonian pine forest is Glen Affric. Rugged and remote hills cloaked by the same native woodland which has existed since the last ice sheets retreated around 10000 years ago, and which still supports healthy populations of other indigenous species....😊

Here's a video taken from above the Falls of Moness, the biggest of a series of waterfalls and pools along the pretty walk around the Birks of Aberfeldy, in Highland Perthshire. This is a lovely walk, only around an hour in length, which follows the wooded gorge throughout. The name comes from a poem with the same title, written by Robert Burns, during his tour of the Highlands, and the "birks" refer to the beautiful Birch trees, mixed with Oak, Ash, Hazel and many others lining the route.
