😍Every year the photos seem to get better and better! We returned to the Isle of Man this summer, enjoying the endless scenery and historical railways of this ancient island. Highlights included views from the top of the Snaefell Mountain Railway (2036 feet above sea level!) and the stunning summer colours in Milntown Estate’s ornamental gardens.

💚Sometimes all you need is a change of scenery, and that’s exactly what we got on our joyful drive through the Peak District National Park last week. We paused in the historical village of Eyam where signs reminded us of the sacrifices made here during the Great Plague, tucked into a delicious lunch at The Merchant’s Yard in Tideswell, and let the landscape roll by.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿We’ve just returned from one of our all-time favourite destinations – Scotland’s Galloway Coast – enjoying another excellent week immersed in the Scottish way of life. The Kitchen Coos & Ewes Highland Safari was as popular as ever with a special surprise for this year – “The 3 Amigos” in the baby barn, looking cute and fluffy! We got a taste of the exotic at Logan Botanic Gardens and the Round Pond was fit to burst with rare waterlilies at Castle Kennedy.

😀Special thanks to our driver Carl for always being a good sport – and in this case, a herdsman with horns! And to our lovely customers, David and Anne Farrer for returning with some fantastic photos.

🍃During a recent stay on the delightful Dorset coast, Jane spent a couple of hours wandering within the beautiful gardens at Burrow Farm. She found a wonderful array of colourful and architecturally interesting plants with the seemingly endless surrounding countryside creating the most calming backdrop. The small shop carries some interesting items and there was a lovely display of very healthy-looking plants in the nursery. The 'icing on the cake' is the tempting tea room with a tasty selection of sandwiches, soups and some melt-in-the-mouth sweet treats including a ginger cake, 'just like granny made'!

🍁Visit during our stay on the Jurassic Coast this autumn including a seafront hotel (rated 4.5/5 by Shaw’s customers in 2023!), a cruise on the River Exe, a step back in time at Coldharbour Mill, Burrow Farm Gardens with cream tea and plenty of free time to take in Sidmouth's fresh sea air.

WOW – what an event! The acoustics were goosebumpy and the song choices legendary! Unfortunately they had to leave at the interval as their train home was cancelled ☹ You’ll never miss the end of a show with Shaws, we can’t wait to return to the Royal Albert Hall very soon...

🌺🌸A FLORAL FIESTA FOR JANE!🌸🌺 Jane loved her recent visit to RHS Malvern Spring Festival in glorious sunshine.

💬”The showground nestles beneath the Malvern Hills in lovely, unspoilt countryside and it was a joy to wander round the spacious grounds and most especially to be able to view the show gardens close up. The floral marquees were filled with colour and there was a great selection of trade stands, with some wonderful, colourful plants available to buy. Particularly thoughtful is the Plant Creche where you can deposit your purchases and collect them later - or make use of the porter service to take them back to the coach! The show’s recent rebranding as a festival ensured there were plenty of places to eat and drink, with quality catering and the staff were so friendly and welcoming! Traffic enroute wasn’t always on our side but Darren and Michael handled it seamlessly meaning my friend and I could just sit back and enjoy the ride - a thoroughly stress free day - and home in time for a nightcap at our excellent local - Blue Bell Maxey

🌳🏞The Peak District – the UK’s first national park – awaits this summer! Did you know that we have a mass trespass on Kinder Scout in the Peak District in 1932 to thank for our freedom to roam in the countryside?

We loved our visit to Matlock Bath last week, affectionately known as ‘Derbyshire’s seaside town’. This beautiful spa town, in a steep wooded gorge, with Victorian architecture and Riverside Gardens was the place to be for 19th century high society!

🔢Team member Jane unlocked the secrets of Bletchley during her recent visit, what will you decipher?🔢

💬“Clear descriptions in each hut and a wartime ambiance instantly transports you back to the height of Bletchley’s codebreaking accomplishments at this top secret location. Period rooms in the original mansion are styled to reflect the early days and it’s especially evocative to see the secretaries' handbags beside their desks and their cardigans hanging over the back of the chairs. At its peak, over 9000 people were billeted and fed at the site - the logistics of accommodating this ingenious group was quite an achievement. Today's catering is certainly a cut above what was on offer during the war years and comes highly recommended. It was fascinating to listen to the stories of life at Bletchley, recounted by the people who worked there, and to enter the office where computer visionary Alan Turing worked. I highly recommend the free daily guided tours (book a slot on arrival), the staff are incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic and welcoming, the free audio guides are a great alternative to a guided tour too”

🌷🌿Cambridge Botanical Gardens were calming, intriguing and immaculate says team member Tory, after her recent visit. The Rock Garden was an impressive sight for adults and an adventure for children who scrambled in the grotto like hollows. The glasshouses were bursting with exotics, the main lawn was beautifully manicured and the fountains were mesmerising. Outdoor seating (in the sunshine) at the restaurant was enticing and the menu very tempting, with lots of great value hot meal options alongside coffee, cake and sandwiches (you can also take a picnic). Better still it’s just a 20 minute walk to the centre of Cambridge where free museums and boutique shopping in one of England’s most beautiful cities awaits.

An island of myth, legend and motoring! Spring on the Isle of Man was magical! Highlights included the Motor Museum, the Steam Railway and a guided tour of Tynwald. Thank you to everyone that joined us.

😃After our recent ‘Taste of Cornwall’ (including Cornish themed menus at the hotel) we can’t wait to return in summer! We delved into dark history during a guided tour of Bodmin Jail and loved their award winning immersive experience! The Eden project was full of colour and we enjoyed wandering (with warming coffee), by the sea, in pretty Cornish towns.
