Beautiful swim in the lake today. The water was so warm. Then the Red Arrows flew over. We see them every year on their way to or from an event. This evening I heard strange bird calls that my app identified as a Hobby, similar to a kestrel. I had no idea we had a couple of those in the woods.

Visit from the Canada Geese today. Glad to see there is still a family with six goslings nearly full grown.

Spot the tiny toad. First I have seen this year and there are so many of them heading off to the lake.

The goslings are growing up. Lovely to see this pair of Canada geese still have seven.

Our first gaggle of goslings this year from a pair of Canada Geese. We also have a Hybrid Mallard that started off with 8 ducklings and now has five, another mallard with four and another mallard with about eleven - they move so quickly over the water catching flies it is difficult to count them but fun to watch!

Spring has finally arrived at Lake Lodge. We have so much new life about from tadpoles to a young buzzard. Two mallard ducks have ducklings and the geese, herons and egrets are all sitting on nests on the islands.

We had a murmuration of seagulls over the lake this evening which went on for several minutes. We have never seen this before and it was quite amazing.

After all this rain - the lakes are the highest they have ever been since they were first excavated - it was lovely to see such a wonderful sunset.

The lake is full of Canada and Greylag Geese, swans, egrets and herons all pairing up for Spring with the geese being very vocal!

Having been absent from the lake for the last few days because it was frozen, several egrets and herons seem to have arrived to take shelter from the storm on the sheltered side of Heron Island.

Not sure where they are going but these geese fly over every morning. We also saw our first Gooseander has arrived for the winter.

The only one enjoying the wet weather today is one of our resident otters 🦦 So far today he has eaten three fish and taken up residence in the duck house - maybe even he was fed up of the rain! ☔️

Our resident kingfishers are getting very friendly this year. We finally managed to capture one on camera when it came to visit.

Such beautiful sunsets here. So quiet that all you can hear is the occasional call from a kingfisher and a combine working away in the distance.

The swans have managed to raise three of their six cygnets. I think these are big enough to survive now.

The lake is full of new life this week. The swans have brought their seven new cygnets to see us, the Canada Geese from last week still have their two goslings, two more pairs have one gosling each and another pair have three. The kingfisher is busy flying back and forth so must have some young somewhere. What a lovely time of year this is at Lake Lodge.

Spotted our first pair of Canada Geese goslings this year. Unfortunately the swan doesn’t like them invading his territory and keeps chasing them. Hope they survive.

Spring is definitely in the air at Lake Lodge. If you zoom in on this video you will see two of the family of three otters we have been watching playing in front of the house this weekend. The herons are rebuilding their nests in the heronry on the island. White egrets, Greylag geese and mallards are also sorting out their nesting sites. The woodpeckers are very noisy during the day and the owls at night. A great time to visit for your own private Springwatch.

The wildlife is certainly about at the moment. This morning we had fox look in the door as it passed by. Not sure who had the biggest surprise at coming face to face, the fox or us!

A great weekend for wildlife. Not only did this kingfisher stay still long enough for a quick photo but spotted this tiny toad, only about 1 cm long in the garden behind the house. In the evening there were three Muntjac deer eating fallen berries under the mulberry tree. We have also been watching a pair of coot feed their young one and three mallard ducks have 5 half grown young between them. The Greylag and Canada geese have moved on but the herons are still here on heron island. We have not seen the otters but spotted them last time we were here. Judging by the number of pieces of walnut shell on the ground there are plenty of grey squirrels around.

The Swans have finally managed to produce a cygnet. We think all their eggs were destroyed by foxes or otters last year but at least they have managed to save one this year.😀

Very busy on the lake this morning. Spot the White Egret and Cormorants in the trees, Swans, Geese, Tufted Ducks and Mallards on the lake. They are all getting very territorial with the Swans chasing the Geese and the Geese chasing each other!
