6 SAKA STRATEGIES FOR SURVIVING A KNIFE ATTACK

1. ALERT
Alert others to the danger, shout out loud. Knife, knife, knife, call police!

2. MAKE SPACE, ESCAPE
Put as much space between you and the attacker as possible. Look for possible escape routes.

3. USE BARRIERS
Get behind obstacles or objects that might prevent the attacker getting close to you.

4. OBJECTS THAT CAN BE USED
Look for anything that can be thrown at the attacker or make it difficult for the attacker to get to you or others.

5. WEAPONS OF OPPORTUNITY
Is there anything close to hand that could be used as an improvised defensive tool?

6. DEFENSIVE MEASURES
If all else fails be prepared to use physical skills to defend yourself or others if required.

Realistic Self-defence lies at the very heart of martial arts training.

The skills we learn must be capable of being applied in a realistic and effective manner within the context of violent confrontation.

Beside the physical skills, realistic self-defence training must include emotional and mental training through a process of graduated, structured pressure testing, this is an essential component of any realistic self-defence training programme.

Understanding the difference between martial arts skill based training, martial arts sports based training and realistic self-defence is vital.

Since the early days of my training, self-defence has always played an important and central role in my personal development.
GM. Anton St’James holds a BTEC Level 3 as an Advanced Self-Defence Instructor.

Over the past 40 years he has taught a range of self-defence courses and workshops to law enforcement officers, military personnel, health & social care workers, nightclub staff and the general public.

He is the founder of Street-Safe UK and Surviving A Knife Attack (SAKA) two organizations specializing in realistic self-defence and knife survival tactics.
