🚂 ‘Pit to Port’ returns for 2025!

☀️ Our annual Coal Train Event returns this May Whitsun Bank Holiday.

ℹ️ Expect a minimum of two steam and one mainline diesel locomotive in operation hauling both passenger and demonstration coal trains. An intense timetable will be in operation providing an insight into how the coal was transported from the pits.

🛤️ You could extend your visit with a trip to The Big Pit National Coal Mining Muesum or the Gwaith Haearn Blaenafon / Blaenafon Ironworks? (Separate attractions and charges may apply).

⛏️Join us at Big Pit on SATURDAY 1 MARCH for a day full of strike memories, talks, film, poetry, music and reminiscence to mark the end of the 1984-5 Miners’ Strike.

⛏️Also an opportunity to take the world famous underground tour with some of our miner guides who had first-hand experience of the Strike.

📢All our underground maintenance and safety checks have now been completed, so it’s all systems go as we re-open daily from TODAY, 9.30am-5pm!

⛏️The world famous underground tour is available from 10am-3.30pm, but remember children must be at least one metre tall to go underground.

⛏️King Coal: The Mining Experience, the Pithead Baths Exhibitions, Fan House, Blacksmith’s Forge, Coffee Shop and Gift Shop are all open too!

🎟️ Entry is FREE, but pre-boked payable Job-A-Knock tickets are available which secures a timed slot for the underground tour ℹ️ 👇
