It was a somber start to the day this morning when we found this little seal pup washed up on the beach. Sadly, she was no longer alive.

This very young female was most likely overcome by the rough sea conditions this week.

If you ever come across a live sea animal on land, please NEVER approach it. Keep any dogs on a lead and contact the British Divers Marine Life Rescue hotline straight away on: 01825 765546

Seals regularly haul out on our coasts – it is part of their normal behaviour and, in fact, they spend more time out of the water, digesting their food and resting than in it. Therefore, finding a seal on the beach does not mean there is necessarily a problem and DO NOT chase it into the sea as this may stop it from doing what it needs to do – rest. A healthy seal should be left alone. 🦭

Recording stranded animals provides us with information about the marine environment and the health of marine creatures. This information is vital in helping us to conserve wildlife and cannot be learnt from studying live animals. This applies to anything from Jellyfish, sea birds and buoy barnacles up to dolphins, seals and even whales.

Newquay is simply the best holiday destination, I used to come here as a child, and loved it so much that I moved here a little over 20 years ago!! The beach below is Towan beach, it is full of exciting things to do from surfing, a sea aquarium, cafes, restaurants, minutes from the town and shops, and it's an amazing family-friendly beach.
