An interesting article, nothing new to those who work in the sector.

A reminder to adults, particularly men, what would young people learn from your attitudes and behaviours towards women and girls? Help break the cycle of violence.

As violence against women and girls spirals, we uncover the shocking reality of misogyny and harassment in schools. Investigations Editor David Cohen reports

A message from Carl our MD

On International Women's Day I would like to publicly share my gratitude to the women directly in my life (I try to ensure they know the rest of the year too) and to the women and non binary people working within women's spaces, that have an indirect impact on my life.

Lot of love, lot of respect, myself and the Invictus team will continue to do what we can for current and future generations to reach equality, inclusion and belonging in all spaces.

A big thank you to our learners, clients, team, family and friends for their support in 2023.

It was a busy year both in and outside of the classroom. Our Chief Operations Officer KT's focus shifted to her PhD in Behavioural Science of Protective Security, she is undertaking a huge research project in security and safety at large music events. She still managed to escape the books for some of her favourite classes.

This put Carl back in charge of admin and delivery, thank you for your support and patience. It was a pleasure to have some associates from our operational security world join us in the classroom too. We will be recruiting for a new support staff member this year, keep your eyes peeled for details if you know anyone who would be interested in applying.

It has been great to hear about the impact our training has had on the operational front from our clients, and awesome to be able to support individuals get the training they needed to continue in jobs that they love.

Always pushing ourselves and our services, new milestones have been achieved for not only some of our popular specialist courses (details to be released in the coming weeks) but also our trainers themselves. From NEBOSH courses, Distinctions in Diplomas in Crowd Management and Safety, to operational safety roles at some big festivals.

Our thanks also go out to some special people in the events world with gratitude for allowing us to join your journeys to safer crowded places, and improving learning journeys and workplace conditions.

There are plenty of NHS services open this New Year bank holiday weekend to help you with urgent medical problems.

Remember: only call 999 or go to A&E if you, or someone you're with, is suffering a serious or life-threatening emergency that requires immediate treatment.

The video in the link is violent, the outcome could have been very serious when one punch can kill.

What do you think could have been done differently by which people? Keep it constructive/ analytical.

We will add our thoughts later.

Many of our followers will know that we support groups that actively campaign to reduce Violence against women and children.

The title of this press release is important, there is already plenty of whataboutery, clearly showing ignorance and that they have not read the press release itself...the forthcoming changes apply to all genders, both perpetrator and victim/ survivors.

Still so much to be done.

Controlling ex-partners who lash out at the end of their relationship will face longer than ever behind bars under new government plans to tackle domestic homicide.

A friend had a post about mental health challenging others to repost... I felt it was too important to both of us to just do that, so I wrote my own.

We need to show we give a damn before it's too late, current rates of su***de are heartbreaking. The number of people who merely 'exist' rather than live due to poor mental health must be frightening.

Please ask how those close to you are, and really listen, and ask again, tell someone if you are worried about them if they don't seem themselves. You don't need to be their counsellor, just show you care, perhaps you can signpost to suitable support.

We also need to celebrate mental wellness and share what is making feel good.

If you care about this kinda stuff maybe write your own little post x

We will be running both a Door Supervisor Top Up course and a Full Door Supervisor course in the coming months in Portsmouth.

Is this something that would be of interest to you/ someone you know?

Do you know someone looking to top up their earnings? We can guarantee interviews (with local venues/ security companies) for those who successfully pass the course.

Let’s bust some Myths about working as a Door Supervisor

It's a man’s job ❌
Gender does not define a Door Supervisor (DS) - there is a massive shortage of female DS ✅
You need martial arts experience/ know how to fight ❌
We don't want you to fight! conflict management skills are key ✅
You need to look the part and be tall/ muscular to be a DS ❌
We want you to look approachable and that's about energy not size ✅
It's only a job for young people ❌
The perfect team is a blend of ages, we welcome those with real life experience ✅
You need to commit to every evening/ weekend ❌
A lot of companies work on a flexible basis, you sign up to work shifts that fit around your commitments ✅
Isn't a Door Supervisor just another name for a Bouncer? ❌
The Door Supervisor licence is a very flexible route into working in the private security industry. Pubs, clubs, live music venues, festivals, tourist attractions, retail security, corporate security/ concierge duties, and so many more ✅
