Fancy a challenge in the New Year? April 2025 climb both Mera Peak (6476m) and Island Peak (6189m)!
This is a 28 day mountain expedition to the Nepalese Himalaya to climb the famous peaks. You fly into Kathmandu on the 11th April then we travel to Paphlu and head up through Sherpa communities into the Hinku Valley towards the high villages of Khote and Khare before going onto the mountain camps. After the summit of Mera, the descent drops over the Zetra Pass into Lukla, then up the main Khumbu Valley to the Chukkung Valley to climb Island Peak.

Dominating the landscape like no other mountain, iconic and instantly recognisable, Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is the highest peak in Africa and the world’s tallest freestanding mountain at 5895 metres. To climb Kilimanjaro is a great challenge and entirely feasible for the active traveller or keen walker looking for something new. In a matter of days you’ll climb Kilimanjaro from the hot plains of Africa through grasslands, tropical rain forest, alpine meadows, moorlands and desert uplands onto snow and ice. We guide on all her routes and have climbs all year round for open groups and private teams.

Our Kanchenjunga base camp trek is a superb 26 day holiday in the east of Nepal, with 21 days of actual trekking covering 220 km in an area which is far less visited by tourists and includes a wide range of wonderful scenery from lush, tropical jungle through to rhododendron, chestnut and oak forests and high onto the glaciated base camp of the third highest peak in the world.

A few more photos from our climbing guide Kunga Gyazu Sherpa, who recently led a spectacular climb of Parchamo Peak (6189m) for us. This wonderful trek and climb starts in the less explored but stunning Rolwaling Valley, which is a deep Himalayan valley, tucked under the giant snow peak of Gaurishankar (7134m) and considered a holy sanctuary by the local Buddhist inhabitants. Lots more photos to come!

Check in from our Annapurna Team! Pasang Tendi, Adventure Alternative Nepal's MD, is guiding a great team around the Annapurna Sanctuary. This trek takes you through a hidden pocket of lowland villages, meadow and rice terraces to a gorge of rhododendron forests and icy rivers born form ancient glaciers and gigantic peaks. It allows you to immerse yourself in a slow and easy daily routine, with only the elements, the mountains and the quiet character of the people to accompany you.

Stunning! Simply stunning! Our Pikey Peak team just sent us through these beautiful images from their trek so far. Our Pikey Peak and Dudhkunda Lake trek is in the heart of the lower Khumbu region where the charitable arm of Adventure Alternative - The Moving Mountains Trust, has been working for several decades. This trek takes us on a quieter trail, below Lukla and offers calm relaxed walks, amazing views of many 8000m peaks, including Everest, lush green forests, wildlife, flowers and all at lower altitude. This is a fantastic trekking holiday if you want to experience all that the Himalayas has to offer without going to very high altitudes.

Our Three Peaks & Three Passes team enjoyed their visit to Everest Base Camp and watched a stunning sunrise from Kala Patar, tucked under the impressive peak of Pumori. Then they successfully crossed the Cho La Pass and are continuing their circumnavigation of this stunning region of Nepal's Himalaya. Meanwhile our second Three Peaks Team reached Lukla in beautiful weather and our Manaslu and Annapurna Sanctuary teams have both started well. We've just received some fantastic photos, which we'll share later this week, from our Pikey Peak team!

Thanks for the messages of support for our team and charity projects in Nepal, all of which have been okay during the recent floods. We have trek teams currently in the Annapurna and Khumbu regions with several more teams due out this weekend. Higher up in the mountains the weather has been quite good though some late snow has been experienced on some of the high passes. Lower down and especially in Kathmandu infrastructure repair work continues and road access is opening up again.
