The Accomodation
--------------------------
The West Wing is part of Fronfraith Hall; a large country house built in 1863 and was the family home of the renowned Canadian novelist and playwright Robertson Davies (wikipedia). It is set amongst the idyllic splendour of the Mid Wales Hills on the Shropshire border (Welsh Marches), located close to the historic and attractive border towns of Montgomery, Welshpool, Shrewsbury and Ludlow. The West Wing is a perfect setting for families or couples for holidays, short stays and weekend breaks at anytime throughout the year. It is especially idyllic during the summer months and during the Christmas/New Year period. Up to 7 people can be very comfortably accommodated with bedlinen and towels supplied. Larger parties can be catered for with prior arrangement, but please contact us for more information. Surrounded by 7 acres of private gardens, which includes 4 acres of lawned terraces, there are plenty of areas to relax or play in total privacy (more than one acre is set aside for exclusive access for the West Wing). The surrounding gardens also feature an original walled Victorian kitchen garden and a pond surrounded by rhododendrons/woodland. It is an excellent spot to observe the local wildlife including deer, bats, red-kites, herons and buzzards (to name but a few). Dutch and German is spoken fluently. Guest Access
--------------------
Secluded, peaceful, private accommodation with own entrance, parking and gardens with views overlooking the beautiful rolling hills of Mid Wales. The West Wing has been recently restored to reflect the Nineteenth Century origins and boasts one double bedroom, one twin bedroom, an entrance hall, a bathroom and a very large open plan living/dining and kitchen area. This room is very spacious and is naturally lit by two large windows and a large seated bay window which overlooks the beautiful rolling hills of the Severn valley. A fireplace with wood burner creates a cozy atmosphere in the evening to relax by and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside. There is also a good selection of books and novels for you to read. We welcome all our guests on arrival and ensure they are able to contact us for any queries. Local Area
---------------
The nearby picturesque 18th Century market town of Montgomery is dominated by the ruins of Montgomery Castle. Here you can dine at the Michelin starred Checkers Hotel or cozy Castle Kitchens, but should you wish to eat in, there is a fully equipped kitchen area. There are also many other good local restaurants and pubs within easy distance. Nearby attractions include many sites of antiquity including: the ruins of Dolforwyn and Montgomery castles (both free admission); the magnificent Powys Castle (National Trust); and Gregynogg Hall. There are numerous excellent walks for both the casual walker and the more serious hiker. Fronfraith Hall is situated within 15 minutes from the long distance Offas D**e path and a similar distance from Glyndwrs Way. The Shropshire Hills and Shropshire Way are a little further. A few miles to the West, along the river Severn and Montgomery canal, lies the historic Welsh town of Newtown. This is just a few minutes drive away where a selection of well known supermarkets (Morrissons, Tesco and Lidl), local shops, a cinema, library, and an indoor swimming pool may be found. A little further West still, lies the historic towns of Llanidloes and Machynlleth (home to the Centre for Alternative Technology CAT) and is just a stones throw from Aberdovey; an unspoilt fishing village and sea resort with a wonderful sandy beach). It is an hours beautiful drive or train journey (via Newtown) to the Welsh coast. Getting around
