Snowdonia Donkeys is a true gem in the North Wales community, dedicated to promoting health and well-being through the unique bond between people and donkeys. This special place offers more than just a refuge for donkeys; it provides a sanctuary where both animals and people can heal and grow together.
Many of the donkeys at Snowdonia Donkeys come from backgrounds where their owners could no longer care for them. Here, they are given space and time to regain trust and learn new skills, often leading to new homes or a permanent place within the sanctuary. But the impact of Snowdonia Donkeys extends far beyond the animals themselves. Their mission is to be a centre of excellence, fostering well-being for both people and donkeys in our local environment.
In collaboration with BBC Children in Need, Snowdonia Donkeys offers one-on-one sessions for disadvantaged young people, providing them with a safe space to build confidence, learn practical skills, and connect with nature. We are the original Nefyn Holidays! You’ll see lots of references to “Nefyn Holidays” on various Google searches, as more and more of our larger competitors try to muscle in on our success and unique local expertise and experience. However, there is only one Nefyn Holidays and that is us! We are the original and, proud to say, still the best!
Established in 1970, and run by the current partners, Jean Bunford and Gwerfyl Thomas, for the past 31 years, we are one of the oldest independent agencies in northwest Wales.
Between us, we have a wealth of life experience from very diverse backgrounds. Born, in Scotland, quite a few years ago now, Jean’s background has included everything; from teaching; working on a horse-drawn canal trip boat; to being responsible for a flock of over 500 sheep on a remote Welsh hill farm. She is particularly proud, as a junior draughtsman of having designed a jig to hold the tool which cut blades for the famous Olympus jet engine ....... and all this whilst bringing up three children.
Gwerfyl, who hails from Morfa Nefyn and speaks fluent Welsh, is a former A&E nursing sister. With one grown-up daughter, she is the “techie one” of the two of us responsible for our website and brochure design, both of which are done in-house to her usual exacting standards!
We are a small local agency, believing in a no-nonsense, friendly, and personal approach to business. This attitude, coupled with our reputation for fairness, has, over the years, stood us in good stead, and enabled us to thrive where our other local have been taken over by huge multi-national companies.
We live and work on our smallholding in beautiful unspoilt surrounding with our two dogs: a very noisy Miniature Schnauzer who thinks she is a guard dog, and a quiet, squirrel-chasing, Whippet.
Working from home enables us to keep a firm control over our overheads: we design our own brochure; update and maintain our own web site (complete with secure online booking); and carefully target our advertising campaign to reach a specific market. All of this allows us to work on a more modest commission when compared with our competitors and ensures that our prices are kept affordable for all.
