📢 Tourist Taxes Rolling Out Across the UK! 🇬🇧

Several UK cities are introducing tourist taxes to support local services and infrastructure:

🏙️ Manchester: Introduced in 2023 – £1 per room, per night, raising nearly £3M for tourism initiatives.
🌊 Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole: Launched in July 2024 – a small tourism levy to fund local services (this has since been voided).
🏰 Edinburgh: Coming in 2026 – 5% per room per night (capped at 7 nights) to support housing, events, and cultural programs.
🐉 Wales: Plans for a visitor levy are in the works to fund local attractions and protect the environment.

🩺✈️ GHIC vs. EHIC – What’s the difference?

The EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) gave UK travelers access to state healthcare in the EU. Since Brexit, it's been replaced by the GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card), which works the same way but only covers EU countries (not Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Switzerland).

💡 No need to replace your EHIC immediately! If it’s still valid, you can use it until it expires, then apply for a GHIC for free via the NHS website.

Both give you medical cover at the same cost as locals, but they’re not a replacement for travel insurance! ✅
