🌈It's LGBTQ+ History Month!🌈

Section 28 was a law that existed from 1988 to 2003, that stopped councils and schools 'promoting the teaching of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship.'

Drag Queen Divina De Campo has explained that due to Section 28 'teachers felt like they couldn't step in [when] kids in the playground [would bully others].'

The law was abolished in the UK in February 2003. This marked a significant milestone in LGBTQ+ rights and education policies. Each February, we come together to remember and acknowledge the history of the LGBTQ+ community, and celebrate everyones identity.

If you would like to find out more about LGBTQ+ History Month, we have lots of talks happening throughout the month. Including the University's flagship even: The Wolfenden Lecture. Head to our website to find out more! 🏳️‍🌈
