“Make Kindness the norm”

We just had to share more from our wonderful client Seas4life on World Kindness Day.

Thier commitment to protecting marine ecosystems is unwavering. From the gentle sways of coral reefs to the majestic movements of ocean migrations.

Their foundation is the main driver of what they do, by raising awareness through their safaris of their partner’s conservation work, connect the traveller to the dedicated scientists and managers, whilst also raising funds by creating one-off experiences.

Thrilled to announce a new client (in collaboration with Storrington Collective).

Seas4Life Safaris offers immersive and authentic experiences in the Western Indian Ocean and Red Sea, showcasing off-piste locations and led by a team of regional experts, while promoting sustainability and conservation through every journey (with a portion of their proceeds going into marine conservation efforts).

While ocean is at the core of what they do, they can also combine with land experiences and villa stays.

Every itinerary is curated and tailored to the interests, preferences and budgets of the guests.

And for anyone still looking to get away at Xmas/NY and in search of something truly special, they still have some last-minute availability (eg catamaran adventures in Tanzania, Kenya and Seychelles, diving off Mozambique and Saudi Arabia).

Last week I had the pleasure of taking some elite travel agents to the hidden gem that is Dugi Otok, off Croatia’s Dalmatian coast, and experience the extraordinary Villa Nai 3.3.
Being there at this time meant we had the added bonus of seeing the olive harvest; the property is surrounded by a centuries-old olive grove and uniquely has its own mill, from which it produces internationally acclaimed olive oil.

Since I am often asked by travel companies what is being done to address the issue of litter in Halong Bay, I am pleased to share this article in Vietnam News about the ‘Clean the Bay’ campaign spearheaded by Bhaya Cruises.

Held to raise community awareness of environment protection, the event brought together over 100 university students to help clear up rubbish along stretches of coastline and around the bay, as well as representatives of destination management companies and environmental organisations to discuss further strategies for reducing litter long term, including lobbying the government for funding to enable more regular clean-up efforts. Watch this space for further updates.

The campaign is one of several CSR initiatives currently in place as part of Bhaya group’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, which also includes a zero-plastic policy on board their boats, collaborating with Viet Hai villagers and Cat Ba Island authorities to build a Bhaya community farm and café, and supporting the conservation of the Cat Ba Langur, which is among the rarest and most critically endangered primates in the world.

A few shots I took during the glorious few days I recently had at Avana Retreat.
It’s honestly hard to imagine anywhere else in Vietnam offering such an immersive experience, both scenically and culturally.
The trek to a remote Hmong village through spectacular mountain scenery (and with not another tourist in sight) was one of the most memorable things I’ve done in travel. And the property itself is just magnificent, blended into its lush surroundings, with a waterfall at its heart, a jungle spa set amidst gushing streams, exceptional food, and a fabulous team of staff, most of whom come from the local community.
A truly special place, and one which incidentally was recently listed by Forbes as one of 11 new ideas for responsible travel in 2024: https://www.forbes.com/sites/annabel/2023/12/08/where-to-go-in-2024-11-new-ideas-for-responsible-travel/?sh=5dc109b344df

Nandini Jungle Resort, the ‘little sister’ of the iconic Hanging Gardens of Bali, is very much a gem in its own right. Tucked away in an idyllic corner of rural northern Ubud, this boutique retreat offers a tranquil escape amid stunning natural surroundings.
