Monday Musings…….Train vs Minibus

Well i had a very rare weekend off just gone and decided to go and have some time up in Manchester.

Booked the EMR train from Alfreton to Manchester Piccadilly Station. (Norwich to Liverpool i believe)

Upon getting on quickly soon realised that there was no seats at all (just 2 carriages) and very little standing room, but got to Sheffield and managed to get a seat (result) only for a 30 mins or so delay at stockport.

But it’s the journey back on Sunday that i can’t get over…….

Train was booked for 13.44, i’d already been alerted that there were “issues” as minibus companies get wind early so they can get Train Replacement Buses to station.

Arrived early and went to platform 13 to await the already delayed train. (There was so many passengers on the platform)

Anxiety levels were going through the roof, was we going to even get on?

Train arrived 30 mins late and the stampead commenced, almost like a rugby scrum! Luckily i got on but stood the whole way back!

Why am i posting this you may ask?

Our 16 seater minibus has seats. We pick clients up from their door and drop them off at their hotel. They have a guaranteed seat on our bus.

Is the anxiety of getttng on the train or even getting a seat actually worth it?

Would i ever use the train again? Absolutely no chance!

Is the Train any cheaper? possibly, but it’s definitely not a great way to travel (imho)
