One of our favourite walks to do locally - thank you Summat to do for the detailed summary

The Seven Bridges walk, Studley Royal, Ripon, North Yorkshire

Starting from the car park at the Visitor Centre you walk around the outskirts of Fountains Abbey to the Lake and the deer park where the walk begins. (You could of course pay to enter and walk through Fountains Abbey but it’s not necessary).

At the lake you cross the footbridge where you pick up the sign for the Seven Bridges walk. This is a walk along the valley bottom and you follow the river as it meanders through the valley, you will also cross over five beautiful stone bridges. When we visited it was raining however, I can imagine in the summer. This would be a lovely walk with lots of opportunities to paddle in the water.

There is the Roman Monument above you at the top of the valley which you can visit once reparation works have finished.

After walking through the valley bottom, you then climb steadily through the woods, alongside the deer park until you reach an archway which takes you through the deer park, returning you to the lake. If you are lucky, you will see the deer close up.

You then retrace your steps back to the visitor centre. This is a really nice walk which is relatively short and would be a great option for the summer months. There are lots of fallen trees to climb and play on throughout the walk in both the deer park and the valley so lots of children to explore.

You can park at the lake for £6 for 4 hours - parking at the Visitor centre is free (plus there are toilets and a cafe).

So here is tonight’s bedtime reading, and depending on what I learn, we might hear the pitter patter of tiny webbed feet soon…. Maybe Indian runner ducks and rare breed Silver Appleyards…..

(Ps. Research so far, I know they stink, they make a mess of your lawn but are cute as hell being bathed …… )

MILK n EGGS

It’s a little detail but important.
Our hamper eggs are from just around the corner (literally), from the rather free and happy chickens at Ian Taylor in Burton Leonard . They are laid and delivered the same week so always as fresh as possible!

Our milk is from the - who use ensuring their dairy cows are free to roam and use only local Yorkshire Dales farmers.

All delivered twice a week from our lovely Milkman & Milklady husband and wife combo Christine & David. 🤍🤍
