The lovely Hackfall woods are a very short drive from the cottage and well worth exploring. (It is just over two miles in the car.) As mentioned in the article, my favourite route is also to see as many of the follies as possible. It won’t be many weeks and it will be awash with the most beautiful autumn colours. 🥾

Churchby Cottage, in Kirkby Malzeard, sits on the eastern side of Nidderdale’s AONB, making it a central location to explore both Harrogate and York as well as the scenic beauty that North Yorkshire offers.

Did you know that Nidderdale AONB covers an area of 233 square miles? It shares a western boundary with the and stretches from the high moorland of Great Whernside south and east towards the edge of the Vale of York.

The AONB area goes far beyond Nidderdale itself and also includes the beautiful Washburn Valley and Skell Valley 😲
