Paul Gunn - European Judge
Kerry Gunn - 2 x English & 5 x British Champion
Dean Gunn - English & British Champion

Classes are open to adults and children of any experience level. Karate provides its practitioners with not only the ability t

o protect them in the event of a violent attack, but also has a number of other psychological and physiological benefits:

Self-awareness
Flexibility
Co-ordination
Confidence
Muscular Strength
Agility
Balance
Cardiovascular fitness

Karate enhances the male physique as with a women's figure. It enhances the body’s cardiovascular capacity and improves the blood circulation therefore contributing to a healthier life style. Karate can be made fun and enjoyable through training drills encouraging all children from ages 6 – 16 to participate.

Today, we took 3 students to the Thurrock Invitational tournament.

First up was Angelo in the kata. As always, Angelo's performance was strong, which should have seen him through to the final, but unfortunately, the decision didn't go our way today. Angelo came away with a well deserved 3rd place.

Next in the kata was Hayley. It wasn't Hayley's day today. She started strong, but then nerves got the better of her. For Hayley, today was a good learning experience that she can build on in the future.

Finally, we had Harry in the kumite. Harry fought very well, coming from 2-0 down to bring it back to 2-2. Unfortunately, he lost 3-2 in the last few seconds of the fight. Harry showed a lot of fighting spirit and potential for the future.

Good or bad, we are proud of you all. You all went and tried your best, which is all we can ask.

Well done to everyone who graded today πŸ‘πŸ₯‹

Today, we took 6 students to KDF open championships.

Dylan had the hard job of being the very first competitor of the day. He performed a good kata but, unfortunately, was drawn against the winner of the group. Dylan also competed in the kumite. He fought his hardest but again was drawn against a more experienced fighter. This was only Dylans 2nd ever competition, and even though he didn't win, he gave it his all and has the potential to go on to win at future competitions.

Hayley, our youngest competitor of day, went out and performed a strong kata, but unfortunately, after a close round, she didn't go through to the next round. Hayley, the same as Dylan, went on to compete in the kumite but got drawn against the winner of the group. Hayley had some tough groups today being one of the youngest and lowest grades in both of her groups, but she didn't let that faze her and had a great fighting spirit.

Harry, in his first competition, succeeded our expectations. Competing in the kumite, Harry did brilliantly, it was a very close fight and he only lost by 1 point in the last few seconds of the fight. Keep up the hard work Harry this was a great first competition.

Sean also entered both kata and kumite events was unlucky today. Sean performed a great kata, but unfortunately, a slight slip meant Sean just missed out on getting a medal. Sean fought a good fight with some lovely strong gaks, but again, unfortunately, it wasn't Sean's day, and he just missed out by 1 point. Not the result he wanted but a good performance by Sean today.

Shelley performed a strong and technically very good kata, but unfortunately, the result didn't go her way. In the kumite, Shelley fought like a warrior, taking some hard hits but still continued to fight her way to a well-deserved 3rd placeπŸ₯‰. Shelley continues to improve with every competition, keep it up, Shelley, and you will have more medals in your future.

Angelo competed in the kata. He went through the rounds and into the final with ease with some powerful kata performances. Losing to a more experienced competitor in the final, Angelo came 2nd πŸ₯ˆ. Keep up the good work, Angelo, and next time, it will be a gold medal.
