The Christmas decorations have all been taken down, which means it's a busy time of year for the Christmas tree collectors!

Just two days in to the Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice tree recycling scheme and our skip is full already! Philippa Colley from Bluebell Wood and our Marketing Manager Charlotte Pike have been keeping an eye on how things are going.

The tree recycling scheme was fully subscribed this year, so fingers crossed a lot of money will be raised to support the amazing work that the hospice does for children and families in our area.

Beatson Clark are very proud to be the main sponsor once again this year. Watch this space for news of how much money has been raised!

A big thank you to all our colleagues who marked Christmas Jumper Day yesterday with their snazziest, most questionable jumpers!

First prize must surely go to our Sales Manager Darren Oakes, who bent the rules slightly with his amazing Christmas-themed shirt.

Well done everyone who helped raise funds for Save the Children UK!

Christmas is coming, and that means you'll need a plan for recycling your real Christmas tree! 🎄

Luckily we've got you covered: we're sponsoring the tree recycling scheme organised every year by Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice to raise much-needed funds.

We were delighted to welcome Tim Jennings, Pip Colley and Ellie Mae Brumley from the hospice to our factory yesterday.

They were on site to shoot a promotional video for the Christmas tree scheme and were interested to see how our own recycling messages tie in with their campaign.

If you'd like Bluebell Wood to recycle your tree in January you can find more details here:

If you’re in the Greasbrough Road area of Rotherham this weekend you may notice a glowing tribute to those who gave their lives in wartime.

We’re turning our factory sign red for Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day on 10th and 11th November and laying a wreath as usual at the war memorial which stands in the grounds of our factory.

We’ve been making glass bottles and jars in Rotherham since 1751, and we also had a factory at Stairfoot in Barnsley for many years, so the list of our employees who fought during World Wars One and Two is a long one.

We are very proud of the men and women who fought for their country, and proud too of the contribution Beatson Clark has made to the war effort at various times throughout history.

In 1914, many women began to work at Beatson Clark in the warehouse, washplace and stoppering shop. In World War Two women moved into production while the men were on active service, and women outnumbered men at the Stairfoot site for the first time.

We also adapted our production to support the war effort in the 1940s, manufacturing glass containers for armament and medical packs as well as the glass spheres for so-called ‘sticky bombs’ used to attack German tanks.

Remembrance Sunday this year falls on 10th November while Armistice Day will be observed on Monday 11th November.

On both days the nation is invited to pause for a two-minute silence at 11am and reflect on the service and sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces past and present.

We’ve invested millions in our on-site recycling plant, which gives us a reliable stream of cullet, or waste glass, which goes straight into our furnaces to make new glass containers.

Every year we process around 44,000 tonnes of waste glass on site which is recovered from kerbside collections, bottle banks and the hospitality trade.

As it’s Recycle Week we wanted to remind you that glass is the most easily recyclable packaging material out there!

Almost three-quarters of glass containers in the UK are recycled, which means they can go back into the furnace to make new bottles and jars.

Do your bit and make sure you recycle all your glass containers!

It's Recycle Week!

Recycling unwanted glass bottles and jars is an excellent way to reduce carbon emissions and energy use.

Every 10% of recycled glass in a glass container means an estimated 5% reduction in C02 emissions and a 3% cut in energy use.
