Balmory Stables

Balmory Stables Balmory Stables, a 19th century stable conversion

A very warm welcome to our beautiful cottage, a h and basin. A cot and a high chair are available on request.

The property comprises of the south wing of Balmory Stables, built in 1861 which has recently been completely refurbished to a very high standard. The accommodation is laid out in such a way to allow you to enjoy the privacy and tranquility from both inside and outside of the property enabling our guests to experience a relaxing and comfortable stay. The property has an open plan layout and is com

fortably furnished and boasts a modern log burner and a 50” smart TV. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare extensive meals, with an induction hob, a fan oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, Tassimo coffee maker and a whole range of kitchen utensils. Great attention to detail has been taken when renovating Balmory Stables ensuring guests can enjoy a relaxed stay in luxurious surroundings. The cottage has two large double bedrooms overlooking the courtyard garden and the property can comfortably sleep four guests. Bedroom 1 has a super kingsize bed and a decorative Victorian fireplace. Adjacent is the ensuite shower room, with walk-in shower, w.c. Bedroom 2 comprises two twin beds that can easily be transformed to a super kingsize. Opposite you will find the family bathroom with bath, walk-in shower, w.c. Both bathrooms have underfloor heating and towel radiators to complete the luxury feel. The beds are made with crisp linen and fluffy towels are provided for. The utility cupboard in the hallway contains both the washing machine and tumble dryer, which you are welcome to use during your stay. As Balmory Stables is dog friendly, we have installed a hose outside along with towels and treats in the entrance hallway to allow your furry friend to be washed and dried, ready for a cosy night in front of the fire. The Isle of Bute is home to many scenic walks and beaches for the whole family to enjoy but we do recommend that you are mindful of the rural setting and that you keep your dog on a lead whilst out and about exploring as there is often cattle or sheep roaming nearby! Outside there is ample parking space for two cars with an EV Charging point at your disposal as well as a bike shed with charging points for e-bikes. From the private parking a pathway leads along the fenced garden to the front door of the property. The garden is made up of mostly grass and being south facing and sheltered by mature beech hedges it is a comfortable sun trap with lovely views over the rolling countryside towards Scoulag Moor. There is a small stream adjacent to the garden and although the whole garden is fenced and gated, you should not leave children and dogs unattended. You can set off on several hikes straight from your doorstep and across the island there are many things to explore. With activities such as hiking, cycling, golf and fishing to name a few as well as many fascinating historic sites to visit, there is plenty to experience here on Bute. In the cottage you will find the information on local activities and your hosts are more than happy to help you out and provide recommendations. In a nutshell:

If once you have slept on an island
You'll never be quite the same;

You may look as you looked the day before
And go by the same old name,

You may bustle about in street and shop
You may sit at home and sew,

But you'll see blue water and wheeling gulls
Wherever your feet may go.

You may chat with the neighbors of this and that
And close to your fire keep,

But you'll hear ship whistle and lighthouse bell
And tides beat through your sleep.

Oh! you won't know why and you can't say how
Such a change upon you came,

But once you have slept on an island,
You'll never be quite the same.
