Forestry England plays a vital role in supplying sustainably grown timber to UK industry. But this sometimes means we need to carry out work which involves having closures and diversions on trails to keep everyone safe. In this short video Emma, our Trails Ranger explains why it is important to follow any closures and diversions signs that you may see on site
And although seeing trees being chopped down can seem alarming, don't worry. What makes our timber sustainable is that our forestry work is all part of a cycle, so this winter replanting will take place here at Cannock Chase Forest. You can read more about the lifecycle of a forest and how we manage the nation's forests now and for the future, here: https://www.forestryengland.uk/managing-forests
We are for women ♀️
Happy International Women’s Day ♀️💜
Today, and every day, we celebrate the incredible women who contribute to the magic of the nation's forests 🌲
From conservationists to explorers, educators to adventurers, Forestry England is proud to stand with and support women to feel safe and included in England's forests.
Our sustainable land management team are busy working with our harvesting contractors on the latest lot of timber harvesting which is taking place around Ladyhill and Fairoak.
Seeing trees being chopped down can be worrying – especially when you hear the stories of deforestation in the Rainforest. However, at Forestry England we supply England’s largest amount of sustainably-sourced timber as part of our work looking after over 1,500 of our nation’s forests. And what makes it sustainable is that we are equally focused on planning and planting forests. So the areas that we are felling at the moment will be replanted later this year, and the forest cycle will continue.
You can learn more about how Forestry England manages forests for sustainably grown timber in this short video.

Tree harvesting operations are currently happening at Cannock Chase Forest. All the timber goes into UK industry - but what happens to it then? In this short film, Richard from our Sustainable Land Management team talks you through some of the common uses of wood in the home.
Wood products can have a long life and are often reused or recycled again and again. When we harvest trees for wood, we plant more to ensure the forest’s lifecycle continues.
