It is always a thrill to see the house in the press, especially when we are featured alongside such esteemed company. The other places look incredible too, including @brightonwonderland and @retro.bungalow - do check them out if you get a chance. The UK is full of wonderfully eccentric places to stay, and I love that! There’s also a nice shout-out for our local boozer, @globeinnrye.

This has to be one of my favourite local walks… Sissinghurst Castle Gardens.
This remarkable place began life as a pig farm 🐖, was used as a prison for 3000 captured French sailors (it was they who gave the house the title “castle”), and was then turned into a workhouse for the poor. In 1930, the author Vita Sackville-West and her husband Harold Nicolson bought the estate and began to lovingly restore the house and gardens into what is there today.
The couple had a somewhat progressive attitude towards marriage, even by today’s standards - one of Vita’s lovers was the great Virginia Woolf who she inspired to write the famous novel, Orlando.
The couple were also extremely well-travelled - the Castle currently hosts an exhibition on their experiences in Iran (they were close friends of Reza Shah, regarded by some as the founder of modern Iran).
Following Vita’s death in 1962, the place was donated to the National Trust.
But it is the extended surroundings that I love - hills, lakes, woodland and bubbling streams. This is a great place to grab some “me time”, listen to a podcast and breathe in the country air.
Just don’t forget to bring a few quid for the parking fee (although NT members park for free).

We had the most amazing Valentines dinner yesterday at The Smallholding restaurant in Kilndown. A bit of a drive from Rye, but well worth it! It is officially one of the best restaurants in the country so we feel very lucky that it is in our neck if the woods. I never post photos of food but it was so good, I just had to make an exception. The lobster bao buns was for us the standout dish, but honestly it was all completely amazing.
Will Devlin and his team (both in the kitchen, and front of house) are total geniuses.

I always feel a mixture of relief and gratitude when I read these reviews. Times are hard, and the cost of living crisis is making them even harder. As an #airbnb host, I feel extra pressure to ensure that our guests have the perfect stay, because every penny spent on #riverhouserye is a penny not spent on eating or heating and other essentials. So thank you from the bottom of my heart to every one of our guests for choosing us.
There are also mentions of the “fabulous” and “tasty” The Globe Inn which is our local (and one of the best pubs in the country) and our brilliant agents at Pass the Keys Rye & Camber who are described as “excellent” and “efficient”. We couldn’t agree more with these comments.
