This week’s newsletter was all about the Balkans, here’s what you need to know in case you missed it!

New for this year: a 10-day adventure through the Balkans, starting in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and packed with incredible roads and rich culture. Think Sarajevo, Dubrovnik, the Dalmatian coast, and more.

Prefer to ride from the UK or Paris? That’s still an option, and it takes you across our favourite route through the Alps and back via the Dolomites.

Whichever you choose, this tour is a deep dive into a region shaped by sieges, empires, and religions. You’ll feel it in the food, hear it in the languages, see it in the streets, and spot it in the art on the walls.

There’s nothing quite like that first day on the road. Today, some of our Magellan riders are boarding the train to France, bound for the Austrian and Swiss Alps!

Ahead of them lie legendary roads like the Grossglockner, Furka, Grimsel, Nufenen, Susten, and more.

Over 11 days, they’ll wind their way through Europe’s most coveted mountain range – so expect photos of sweeping panoramas and twisting tarmac draped across alpine ridgelines. You can follow their journey over on our Magellan Riders page (link in the comments).

The next departure for this tour is 16th August – give us a ring if you'd like to join!

“By the time we’re winding back through the Picos, everyone’s already talking about ‘next time.’ That says it all, really. You could ride this route ten times and still come back grinning.” – Ben Spear

Departing this September and next March, our Picos and Northern Portugal tour is a long-standing Magellan favourite.

And new for this year, you can now start any of our Spain and Portugal tours from Madrid on a rental bike.

If you’re flying in from abroad, it’s a brilliant way to save on travel time and jump straight into the smooth, empty, winding roads these regions are known for. The link in the comments has all the information you’ll need. Or give us a call, one of our tour specialists will be happy to help!

Off-roading is daunting, especially on your own bike. This November, why not join us in the Spanish sunshine as we take the brand-new BMW GS bikes up into the hills and onto the trails!

It’s seven days of expert tuition, from the people behind the BMW GS Trophy, and of course, your Magellan guides. New to the dirt? Or a certified trials champion? Don’t worry, the groups are split into skill level and you’ll tackle the appropriate terrain for your ability.

If you're wanting to get an idea of what this tour is like, Magellan customer Marty put together this fantastic video from his trip with us. It's linked in the comments!

There are now just two places remaining on our latest short escape, Guided Switzerland & Italy: A week in the Alps. Little in Europe matches the scale, drama and quality of the roads of the Swiss Alps. And this tour gets you there faster than any other on the market. Starting in the iconic Italian city of Milan, you’ll spend your days riding some of the best mountain passes in the world, before heading down to the Italian lakes to soak in the glamour and drama of Northern Italy.

Perhaps you’ve ridden Central Europe a few times, and you’re looking to stretch your legs somewhere a little different? Allow us to pitch you the Balkan states. East of the Mediterranean, and pushing towards the borders of Asia, these countries not only offer an extraordinary variety of landscapes and roads, but a unique cultural experience built upon centuries of shifting empires and dynasties.

This year we launched a brand new 10-day tour, starting from Ljubljana, and riding through Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Sarajevo, Mostar, Dubrovnik, and more line the route.

You’ll find all the details in the link in the comments. We’re departing on September 9th!

A huge welcome home to our recent Pyrenees Explorers! If you haven’t followed their journey on the riders’ page, here are some photos to keep you up to speed. This journey has been brilliantly documented by guides Richard Evans and Greg Allen, and it’s well worth checking out the daily posts.

We’ve got a few spaces remaining on our June date in 2026, with the later date already full. You’ll find all the tour details in the comments.

Who’s enjoying Ewan and Charley’s latest adventure? 🙋‍♂️

For us, it brings a beautiful mix of nostalgia and anticipation. Scandinavia holds a special place in our calendar year after year. As a region, it just feels magical. The landscapes we ride through remind us that we’re just one tiny dot in the world, that there are forces we can’t control, and maybe, just maybe, we should let go for a while and enjoy the ride.

What have you thought of the series so far? If you’d like to join us in Scandinavia and chart your own Long Way Home, our next departures are 26th July and 9th August.

Looking for locations from their other series? We’ve built a whole webpage just for you – the link is in the comments below.

There’s this road, one no one talks about, from Mostar to Neum that blows us away every time we ride through Bosnia. That perfect combination of smooth road surfaces, minimal traffic, and flowing bends – all set against the backdrop of the Bosnian countryside, ending with a view of the Dalmatian Coast.

Each time, it’s a pinch-yourself moment and we can’t wait until next year to come back and do it again! Then there’s Dubrovnik, Sarajevo, Ljubljana, and the Dalmatian Coast, all part of our brand-new 10-day tour through the Balkan States.

Have you been to the Balkans before? What was your favourite place?

There’s no number of YouTube tutorials or magazine articles that can teach you to ride in the dirt. You just have to get out there, loosen your grip on the bars, and fall over a few times.

Every year, we head to the hills of Andalusia to do exactly that. With a private training facility on the doorstep of some of the world’s best trails, there’s no better place to refine advanced skills or take on your first tarmac-free rides. On day one, you’ll be split into groups based on skill level, and by the end, you’ll have a family of riders to share your triumphs with. This isn’t some army bootcamp; it’s a group of riders helping each other reach better and better trails!

What does October bring to mind for you? For us, it means one thing – Morocco.

Imagine riding your bike from your front door all the way to Africa… or stop imagining and hop on the ferry with us.

There’s nothing quite like the moment you pull over, flip down the kickstand, and realise those two wheels have carried you from home to the edge of the Sahara. From the twisting roads of the Atlas Mountains to the spice-scented streets of Marrakech, the blue-washed lanes of Chefchaouen to the imperial heart of Rabat – and let’s not forget the epic Todra Gorge. Morocco is waiting…

Once again, we’ve got riders converging on the Pyrenees. Our UK departures have crossed Biscay and ridden along the coast and through Urbasa Andia National Park to meet our Madrid contingent in the incredible Basque city of Pamplona.

Now it’s onto the Pyrenees, the mountain region which strikes a physical divide between two of Europe’s icons – France and Spain. As our travellers are about to experience, border hopping here on two wheels is a world of fun. Incredible passes, with both technical and fast-flowing roads, hilltop villages frozen in time, and the ever-present eagles which circle in the updrafts and around church spires.
