Time for another edition of guess the road – and this one’s a belter! Here’s a bit of backstory and a few hints. You might have ridden this magical stretch of asphalt on one of our tours – let us know in the comments!
🤝 The idea for this road dates back centuries, as it follows a route once used by merchants and travelers moving goods across the mountains. However, it wasn’t until the 1930s that a modern, paved road was built, designed to connect regions and promote tourism.
🦅 Visitors often spot marmots, ibex, and even golden eagles soaring overhead. The area is also famous for its colourful alpine flowers, which bloom in the short summer months.
📅 When it opened in 1935, it was one of the most ambitious road projects in the region, cutting through dramatic alpine landscapes and reaching heights of over 2,500 metres (8,200 feet).
🏔️ The towering peak that gives this road its name is the highest in its country. Local folklore tells tales of climbers, adventurers, and even supernatural forces that are said to guard the mountain's secrets.
