This afternoon, after much delay, I went up to the printers to collect my new book entitled 'Catch the Wind.' To say I'm delighted is an understatement. It's a thing of beauty.
It's a lot larger in dimensions than my previous book St Austell- The Porcelain Parish. It's a hardback book and it will cost £20.
For years I've collected information about our local ports, this combined with my own knowledge and experience of the local area, working around the St Austell and Mevagissey Bays, I think, makes for a fascinating read.
There is nothing repetitive in this book. It takes a fresh look at the ports of Mevagissey, Pentewan, Ropehorn, Charlestown, St Blazey, Par and Polkerris.
There's lots of subject matter within, that hasn't been written about before. Lots of fresh photos as well. One of my favourite bits when researching for the book was the fascinating history of Par Stack. It also covers the history of the Polkerris and Mevagissey lifeboats, smugglers, the Cannis and Gwingeas rocks and Antiquity. A whole chapter on Charlestown with a fresh look at things and a whole chapter on the old port of St Blazey including the building of Par harbour by Joseph Austen Treffry.
I hope you all enjoy this book, it's the last from me, and I hope that I've left a small mark on the fascinating history of our beautiful area. I'm no Rowse, but I hope people will remember my contribution towards the cause through my books.
So, ive picked up 50 books with the remainder coming midweek next week. The others are all printed but the covers need to be attached.
If you want to buy a copy, please feel free to come to the house, and when I have the rest I will deliver to the St Austell area. You can also order online on the website at www.charlestowntours.co.uk and I will post them in due course.
I hope you enjoy reading it 😁.
