We can't wait to be out on the water again, soon.
Thanks to Mevagissey to Fowey Ferry for outlining their seafaring reasons for non-sailing events.
๐๐ฌ Good morning folks ๐ฌ๐
๐ช๐งโ
โJust a little info on why we have to cancel a days sailing.โโ
๐ง๐ช
We absolutely appreciate that people wonder why we have taken the decision as at first glance at the harbour or out of the window, it may seem we have over reacted... But, here is a brief overview of the main reasons๐
๐ด It's chucking it down! We're not talking just a few showers or a little drizzle, but if we see 100% chance of flood inducing persistent rain, we are not going to expect our passengers to queue on the quay. Its just unpleasant!
๐ด A Southerly wind just one or two miles an hour over our limit:
We can sail the whole of the bay until it gets to the mouth of Fowey estuary. On a dropping tide in particular, combined with the strong southerly, the river creates deep trough waves that makes sailing conditions unsuitable for passenger comfort.
๐ด An Easterly over our limit:
There are two issues here, the sea state during a strong Easterly turns our beautiful calm bay in to a white water rolling swell. Then you have the wave that pulses in through Mevagissey Harbour causing excess movement against the harbour wall. It is absolutely essential that we can board every age and cater for those that might need a steady arm to step on to the ferry. When there is a large rise and fall, it is absolutely not safe to board passengers.
The Easterly can also leave us with a "leftover swell" the next day where we can easily sail the bay in the conditions but we cannot provide safe embarking/disembarking.
๐ด Northerly and Westerly winds:
We are more sheltered from the land so our limits are slightly higher but even so, over a certain level conditions become unsuitable for comfortable ferry passage.
We hope this gives you a little bit of information in to our world of seafaring and the responsibility we have to be as accurate as possible for our passengers wellbeing.
We want to see people leaving Bessie James with big smiles, rosy cheeks and great memories.
๐๐๐ Keep a check on the website for our daily updated sailing forecast. ๐๐๐

Monday weather outlook for Cornwall ๐ฅ๏ธ
Since the turn of the century and with the odd exception (2003 comes to mind), August has consistently been the most disappointing of three summer months. So a hot, dry August is long overdue, but the latest model runs hardly look inspiring, so basically a few warm days, more rain later this week and blustery winds too.
The new working week starts off with some low cloud and murky skies for some, although some areas will have some lovely sunny spells but there is still that risk of a few light patchy showers in the morning. Temperatures on the cool side for August at 16c down to 13c and as the morning progresses the murky skies (low clouds) will hang around for some parts of the Duchy, and other parts will have some lovely sunny spells too.
The winds will be nice and light from a Northwesterly direction and veering to a Westerly in evening at 0-20mph, perfect for camping. While the sun is still powerful enough to make it feel quite warm, when it makes an appearance, top temperatures will reach between 17c and 20c.
As we head into the afternoon, we play a game of who gets the longest spells of sunshine! There will be generally large amounts of cloud around in the afternoon, but this won't be everywhere across the Duchy as more in land you are the less cloud you will see. When the sun is out (but don't expect a heatwave) it will feel quite humid and warm so please remember the UV levels are high, meaning you can still catch the sun though the cloud!!
In the evening, there won't be too much change in the weather, more sunny spells with variable amounts of cloud but the later stages of evening could see a few isolated showers around.
Overnight there will be a good deal of cloud around, bringing the risk of a few light patchy showers, this with light winds, a few short-lived mist or fog patches forming again and around dawn and in rural areas and in some exposed areas could turn a little chilly once more, but on the whole, temperatures generally shouldn't fall below between 10c and 16c.
Much of the remainder of the week sees variable amounts of cloud and a few showers, before it turns breezier and generally unsettled again. A showery weekend may then be followed by warmer improving conditions during the second week of August.
Kind regards,
KWT Dave.
Sights and sighs of pleasure from a stroll around the harbour this afternoon!

We are back sailing today after the Beastly Easterly that kept us in the harbour for 3 days!
Beginning of the week tends to be quite busy so why not hop on today and get your vitamin sea with a cruise across the bay ๐๐

We are sorry weโre having to change our opening times this is due to a big handful of our team isolating at the moment.
Sadly, at times this means we might have to stop serving food, but, will continue serving our scrummy drinks menu and cakes ๐
We look forward to seeing you at a slightly later time tomorrow and the full team should be back together by the end of next week ๐๐ผ๐๐ผโค๏ธ
Did you see Tom Cruise ?

Good morning lovely people, just a note to let you know that we ARE running today after the spell of Tomfoolery from the weather!
โ We cannot stress highly enough the importance of:
1๏ธโฃ [first stop] using the website, to check the daily updated sailing forecast, or
2๏ธโฃ [second stop] dropping us a message via Facebook or the chat facility via our website.
๐ We cannot always answer immediately, but further instruction gives a link to the forecast.
โ On the notice boards in Meva and Fowey is written instruction as to if we are sailing, along with "please check the website".
๐ We do our absolute best to make sure our passengers get ample warning, but with the best will in the world, very VERY occasionally the weather throws us a curve ball from the forecasts and we have to make the difficult decision to cancel at the quayside.
๐ค We hope you can understand that a decision to not run, involves much deliberation with YOUR comfort and safety at the forefront. We make no compromise on this despite the absolute disappointment at having to cancel sailings.
๐๐๐ See you on the water ๐๐๐
๐ฅฐWEโRE BACK๐ฅฐ
Weโll be in early getting all prepared to welcome you again (Wed 7th) Re-opening at 11am. If we could open at midnight we would have done, but thought it best to have a good sleep and be on form to serve you beautiful bunch.

Hope youโve all kept well,
Love Rose, Mikou & all the team Xx
The beach is being marketed at the moment (March 2021) as a Private Beach. Please fill the page with photos of you and your families enjoying this wonderful beach to show any prospective buyers of Trevalsa Court just how much we use and love it!

Today would have been the finale to Mevagissey Feast Week, where we'd give thanks to the organisers, volunteers and participants, who made it all possible. We'd also have special memories of the family that kept us dancing.

QUICK REMINDER:
One-way up Polkirt Hill between 10am โ 5pm
Starts Monday 12th July to Thursday 30th September
Heavy rain all day, and overnight into Monday. High tide is around 8.30pm tonight and 5.4m. Whilst the catchment is relatively empty, the river can still react quickly to heavy rain, so weโd call this โone to watchโ.
After a few years talking about it, we actually spent yesterday afternoon recording ๐ถ our album ๐ฟ in St. Mewan Church .
We've still got quite a bit to do before we can release the cd, cover graphics ๐จ, etc... but it is on the way and we hope you'll think it was worth the wait.
Big thank you to Digital Sound and St. Mewan Church ๐๐
๐ฅ It may have been a little gloomy today, but the dimmed sunlight makes the boat colours leap out like a vivid dream.
We're working away from our little haven for a few weeks, so please share your photos with us! Tag us at Meva365 anytime!
Evening, all!
