ROCK POOL READY…

We have been basking in some marvelous May sunshine over the past week here at West Soar House and it feels like summer has finally begun to wend its way over the hills and coves, inviting visitors and us locals to take a first dip in the sea and explore all that makes this area so very special. 🏊

And can there be a more family fun time than rock pooling amongst the lapping waves and seaweed fronds to find the sea creatures we share the sands with?

This Saturday December 2nd Kingsbridge is the place to be for all things jolly, as the annual Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas festival is on.

A magical day in the town will be waiting with carol singing to put everyone in a merry mood, stalls from top to bottom of Fore St. with all manner of gift ideas and foodie treats, the free ice rink for a skate around and all the shops in town joining in the festivities too. Oh, and mustn't forget Santa - he will be in residence at his grotto. 🎅

Well… as we all know it's a Ria (Google that) but whichever you favour you can rely on this local's fave place to deliver the finest flavours in town, and a view that just makes the days last forever, whatever the season.

It's one of our favourite stop offs for lunch or dinner, or even just a glass of what you fancy while watching the boats go by.

ONCE FOUND. NEVER FORGOTTEN…

Maceley Cove: A secret beach tucked away and only for the active and able to make their way to. 😎

But if you are feeling firm of foot and fit, the walk around the coast from East Prawle village towards the Gammon Head will reveal this sandy haven with the most gorgeous turquoise waters to dip into.

Be aware… it’s a challenging climb down to this secluded bay and is best experienced at low tides. But we can honestly say it’s a joy and a hotly guarded secret amongst the locals.

A HOT SPOT FROM A DIFFERENT ANGLE…

Possibly the most memorable rock in the South Hams and when the tide is out it’s the perfect location for some rock pool crabbing time!

If your little nippers are keen to uncover a few crustaceans, then off to South Milton Sands you go. The magnificent arch of the Thurlestone Rock is waiting…

But make sure you don’t disturb these little sea creatures’ homes too much. They are very delicate and like to hideaway!
