Happy New Year! I hope 2025 has got off to a great start!

I love this time of year when the weather is on the cold and dreary side, and you look ahead, ready to plan exciting holidays to look forward to.

We’ve got GCSE’s again this year 😵‍💫 (our planning wasn’t great there was it, with 2 school years back to back 🙄😂), so heads down for the first part of the year for us, but then fun, fun, fun! Another few days away are in the pipeline when the exams are over…back in Marbs again, as last year was fabulous with .stoner staying at the but this time playing golf with …🤫 I might just drive the golf buggy and work on the tan! I think sailing in Greece ⛵️ is also in the pipeline again as that was also fab last year. Different islands this year and going it solo….what could possibly go wrong with 3 teenagers?! 🫣 …..and of course, a couple of weeks in Salcombe at Number 8 💜 with all our favourite people again. This stunning photo taken by looks like the Med!!! We are SO lucky to have this incredible piece of heaven in England. Simply love Salcombe and all that it is.

Number 8 is right on the doorstep to all things wonderful. Nestled in a courtyard just off Fore Street, in between and Deck Out, with the fabulous and the nearby.
The waters edge is only 30 seconds from the front door, where the comes and goes from Normandy Pontoon (check timetables as seasonal).

sleeps up to 5 people, has private parking (a small luxury in busy Salcombe!) and a small outside terrace. Decorated throughout in it is the perfect little bolt hole any time of year, for a weekend escape or a holiday to relax on.

🐾 DOGS ALLOWED🐾

So we have ummmmed and ahhhhhed over this one, but I’m sure this is welcome news for many. 1 small dog is now allowed to stay at 8 Kings Cottages.

We originally allowed dogs but one chewed the arm of the brand new (at the time) white linen Feather and Black chair, one soiled the garden and one soiled the carpet, all within a short time frame of each other so in came the immediate ban, as we had just bought the property and everything was new. The stress was too much.

Salcombe is such a dog friendly place it just seems such a shame not to allow them, especially as we have our own sea dog , Daisy, who loves Salcombe as much as we do.

With the help of Toad Hall Cottages, we are allowing 1 small pooch to join the holiday.

I just ask, please, please be respectful. Dogs are to stay downstairs away from the bedrooms and not be allowed on any furniture, please don’t let them go to the toilet in the garden, instead take them up the road, and please wipe their sandy paws before entering the property.

Together we can make this work 🐾

….the little piece of Heaven, called Salcombe 💜

I was first introduced to Salcombe when I was 17, when my insistent mum sent me on a sailing course hosted by the Island Cruising Club. I never wanted to go and begrudgingly did. Little did I know I would be introduced to the most magical place in the South West.

At that time, Victoria Quay was not the glamorous row of houses they are today and Island Street was instead a plethora of Boat Builders. So much has changed, yet so much charm retained.

I have been back to Salcombe year after year ever since and now take my family, who love it just as much as I do.

We’ve made 8 Kings Cottages our home from home; a little bolt hole right in the centre of town. A stones throw from the shops and a hop, skip and a jump from the waters edge. It sleeps up to 5 people with private parking and we happily rent it out, for others to enjoy.

When in Salcombe, I strongly suggest hiring a boat if at all possible, giving you the opportunity to see what the Salcombe Estuary really has to offer.

There are so many ‘nooks and crannies’ to explore, so much wildlife to experience and many beautiful properties and landmarks to discover. The is nestled at the end of South Pool and serves wonderful food and drinks over looking the babbling brook, fabulous if you get the tide times right!

We have just had the most magical week on the water. We dabble in sailing and are certainly no pro’s, but we wanted a holiday that could accommodate the teenagers and keep those that like sunbathing and swimming happy and those that like action and exploring happy, it was a no brainer!

If you’d like to see if this sort of holiday is for you and your gang, but don’t want to stay for that long just in case it isn’t, in addition to their full and half day charters, are now offering an overnight stay (minimum 3 nights) aboard their luxury yacht, during the months of April, May, June, September and October…

…Number 8 is calling us for Easter 🐣 but with persistent rain since the New Year apparently and a flurry of settling snow 2 days ago, we are not quite sure what the weather will hold for us in ‘sunny Salcombe’ but what is guaranteed is a wonderful change of scene for us all. Fabulous coastal walks, fresh sea air, amazing food, a bit of shopping especially with Number 8’s enticing discounts on offer…and the opportunity to re-group as a fam.
