Our Heather completed her sponsored walk on Saturday - nearly eight miles walked, seven churches visited, six pipe organs played (one church was locked), one pub patronised for a restorative drink. A beautiful day for walking in the English countryside.

Donations will go to repairs to the pipe organ in Figheldean church, and to the Historic Churches Trust. Thank you!

Think of Cornwall and probably a rugged coastline, clotted cream and a landscape made famous by fiction and art spring to mind. On Foot’s walk has all this and is also a journey through the rich heritage of Cornwall’s industrial past. https://www.onfootholidays.co.uk/routes/england-cornwall-lands-end-circuit/

Our route is a circuit that starts in St Ives, then follows St Michael's Way to St Michael’s Mount and the coastal path to Land’s End. On the return to St Ives, it takes in the wild Tin Coast and the stunning structures that stand as the remnants of the Cornish mining industry. You may have spotted the Botallack mines as a filming location for 'Poldark'!

This is a landscape of ancient history too, with stone circles and castles to discover on this perfectly formed circuit.

On Foot's Heather is lacing up her walking boots for a different cause this weekend. She's taking part in the annual Ride & Stride sponsored event on 14 September, walking between seven churches including her home village of Figheldean.

Donations raised will go to the Historic Churches Trust and to the church in Figheldean which desperately needs funds for repairs to its Victorian pipe organ. As organists themselves, Heather and her husband Stuart will be stopping to play a few minutes of music at each of the seven churches.

Watch out for posts and maybe a bit of music as they go!

La Gomera is a magical landscape for exploration on foot, with craggy volcanic mountains, steep ravines, and lush subtropical vegetation.
More details here https://www.onfootholidays.co.uk/routes/la-gomera/

Sitting off the coast of west Africa, the Canary Islands, and La Gomera in particular, are the first to receive the rains and as a result, the island retains pockets of luxuriant, Laurel forest preserved in its Garajonay National Park. These forests, occasionally shrouded in mists, are living remnants of rain forests dating from deep time, and sanctuary for an exceptional number of endemic species.

If you are looking for a real On Foot adventure, then this could be the route for you.

NEW ROUTE: Cilento National Park - Available from September – https://www.onfootholidays.co.uk/routes/cilento-national-park

This area of Campania, south of Naples, is traditional Italy to its core – unspoilt medieval villages, green hills, a pretty coastline and sunset-soaked fishing villages. And of course, there’s fabulous food and wine – this is where the ‘Mediterranean Diet’ was first identified, and the area has more than its share of centenarians.

Walk from Agropoli along the coast, up into the hills, over Monte Stella, and back to the sea at Acciaroli. It’s a laid-back experience in every way, with medium-graded walks, plenty of time to enjoy the history and culture, welcoming hotels, and much quieter trails than better-known regions of Italy.

Available from September. For this route, navigation will be via our new app, which also includes your itinerary and all other information (ie no printed materials) – a chance to give it a try!

Are you considering Classic Slovenia? Anne and Frank Coppinger can recommend our walk, with the added trip to the spectacular Skocjan Caves.

"We really loved green Slovenia. The flowers were wonderful, I counted at least 100 species, and the meadows were so rich in colour and pollinators. Fantastic views and woodland walks with some interesting culture and really good wines. The Skocjan Caves are a must see and we've been to a lot of caves in many countries. Felt like we were in 'Lord of the Rings'."

Hills, vineyards, bridges and chateaux, and delicious food and wine, and you will understand why this walk is beloved of Francophiles. Starting in Beaulieu, where the river flows through water meadows outside the town, then climbing into the hills above, this route explores the hinterland of the River Dordogne.

Staying in traditional inns, small hotels and even a riverside castle, you will experience exceptional food, local specialities and delicious regional wines.

In May this year, Caroline Stott gathered an enthusiastic group of nine to walk the Lighthouse Way or ‘Camino dos Faros’ – following the wild Atlantic coastline of Northern Spain. The route winds along coastal paths, taking in grand cliffs and sweeping sandy beaches, ending at Finisterre, ‘the end of the world’.

The verdict? “We enjoyed the glorious, rugged scenery on this beautiful route. Aznar [On Foot’s local contact] made contact regularly to check how each day’s walk had gone, and with arrangements to be made for the next day.”

Sincere thanks to Richard for sharing these gorgeous images.

Our walking holiday in the Rhine Valley will take you to the heart of the Rhineland and its picture-perfect towns; through verdant Riesling vineyards; and treading some of the very best paths along the upper edge of the Gorge. Flanked by twenty castles, it is easy to understand why poets, painters and composers were inspired by its romance.

For a more hedonistic experience, we also offer a ‘Castles of the Rhine’ route, with nights spent in some spectacular castle hotels, wine and fine dining to enjoy along the way. All the romance, but slightly easier walking…

These Cycladic Islands are the perfect location for an island-hopping, centre-based holiday, contrasting a variety of stunning walks and sights on Naxos, with the quieter, unspoilt landscape of Amorgos. You can choose from a portfolio of walks, through sun-drenched villages or along ancient paths, but always with the promise of a swim in the sparkling Aegean Sea.

If you are looking for a holiday with excellent walking, breathtaking landscapes, Hellenic culture and a distinctive cuisine, we think this two-island holiday has it all.

More news from the Pommie Pilgrimage, which On Foot Holidays is pleased to support. Our man in Derbyshire, Richard Tucker, is part of a group planning to walk between all 42 English Anglican cathedrals, to raise money for All Saints Church in Youlgrave. You can stop in to see All Saints on our Peak District route.

Richard walked with Rob from Birmingham to Worcester, Hereford and Gloucester via the Malvern Hills in May, and our Debbie quickly said hello to Lucy and Nick who were starting out from Salisbury on Friday to walk to Exeter.

Good luck to all the walkers, and may your blisters be pain free!

Irene Kelly has sent us some photos from their recent walk on Turkey's Lycian coast:

"Overall we had a fantastic time and felt supported for the duration of the holiday. Accommodation was standout, the walk to Cirali and Cirali itself were real highlights, it's a beautiful beach and having the amazing ancient Olympus ruins just off the beach was very special. That was definitely our favourite part of the holiday."
