FTX Logistics Limited

FTX Logistics Limited FTX Logistics Ltd operates and maintains the UK MoD’s Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) Service. In peacetime we deliver abnormal loads for the MoD.

We employ and train Sponsored Reserves and HGV Mechanics for peacetime and operational duties. FTX Logistics Ltd (FTX) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kellogg Brown & Root Ltd, part of the KBR worldwide group of companies. The company holds a contract to deliver the British Army & Heavy Equipment Transportation Service. FTX employs 85 Sponsored Reservists (SRs) to operate and maintain the service

and therefore employ both Drivers and Maintainers (HGV mechanics). The company is also responsible for training the regular Army to use the HET trucks. There are two elements to our Non-Operational Service: Both vehicles & SRs have to stay ready to deploy and we maintain peacetime tasks (i.e. meeting the MoD’s equipment transportation requirements). During Operational Service the MoD may call up HET Vehicles and sufficient SRs to man one-third of the vehicles for war fighting or peace-keeping missions. SRs then become subject to military discipline and work alongside Army regulars. Also during operations, the company supplies vehicle spares as required. As well as delivering training for the HET, our Instructors are qualified to deliver a range of training for commercial companies. Being employed at FTX Logistics can provide a varied and exciting job and we recruit a number of times every year. We accept and respond to application forms all year round. Previous Military experience is an advantage, however, applications are welcome from interested people who meet our requirements. Training will be given and elements of the Military training are tailored to take account of previous experience. For detailed job descriptions, visit our main website www.ftxlog.com

Another incredible KBR/FTX Logistics Ltd team recently volunteered to help with renovations at Forces Manor in Scotland, a tri-service hotel offering accommodation to serving personnel, veterans, and the public. With the unwavering support of our company, volunteers James Dean, Lee Cowan, James Walters, and Andrew Peddelty, and their intrepid leader Colin Turnock, joined forces to make another project possible.

This marks our third visit to Forces Manor, and our volunteers worked tirelessly on the manor’s second floor, removing timber stud walls, replacing plaster boarding, painting and decorating, jointing and taping, and replacing doors and skirting boards. Every effort was made with passion and commitment to preserve the manor’s rich history and ensure it remains a cherished landmark for generations to come.

Tony Brown, the owner of Forces Manor, was thrilled to bits with the work carried out. The collective effort of our team and the resources provided by KBR/FTX Logistics Ltd have helped Tony at Forces Manor to move closer to opening two new rooms on the second floor. We’re immensely proud of the positive change we’ve created and the sense of community we’ve fostered through this initiative.

We plan to make more visits in the coming months to continue our efforts and support the community. Stay tuned for more updates on our volunteer projects and join us in celebrating the spirit of giving back.

Jonathan Candler: Driving for a Cause with Mission Motorsport

Mission Motorsport launched their eBay sponsored car which will be driven by injured ex services personal in the 24hr race. My tasking at the event was to take charity beneficiaries on exciting passenger laps around Truxton Circuit, near Andover in Hampshire, the fastest circuit in the UK. I found this highly rewarding and it was just an epic day enjoyed by so many. Couldn’t even stop a Chelsea pensioner from getting some laps in, he loved it.

In a unique blend of philanthropy and passion for motorsport, FTX employee Jonathan Candler has taken to the track to support Mission Motorsport, a charity dedicated to aiding the recovery and rehabilitation of individuals affected by military operations via motorsport. The event aimed to showcase the charity’s initiatives while launching Mission Motorsport’s newly built race car, which will be driven solely by injured ex-service personnel at the 24-hour Race of Remembrance. Jonathan spent the day providing thrilling passenger laps for charity beneficiaries, supporters, and volunteers, helping to raise money and support for the charity.

Mission Motorsport: Racing to Recovery
Mission Motorsport is a charity focused on helping those impacted by military service, including veterans and their families. Their motto, “Race, Retrain, Recover,” encapsulates their mission to provide opportunities in the motorsport and automotive industries. By engaging in motorsport activities, participants can find camaraderie, learn new skills, and embark on a path toward personal and professional recovery.
The organization runs various programs, including driving experiences, training sessions, and competitions, allowing those affected by military operations to connect with their passions and rebuild their lives. By harnessing the thrill of racing, Mission Motorsport creates a supportive environment that fosters healing and growth.

Last month Colin Turnock led another intrepid team consisting of Stewart Melville, Jamie McLaughlin and Ronnie Grundy for another visit north to Scotland to visit Forces Manor.

This time their mammoth task was to build a new decking for the veterans lounge. Fortunately the weather was on their side, and the guys worked hard to complete the project on time.

Many thanks to Tony Brown for giving us the opportunity to help out in this very worthy cause for military veterans. Watch this space for the next instalment.

Last week two FTX Logistics Ltd operators, Mick Donnelly and Dave Abbott we given the opportunity to take part in the The Royal Logistic Corps Sailing Association Regatta. As complete novices, this gave Mick and Dave the opportunity to experience competitive sailing for the very first time.

With their experienced Skipper Bruce on board, the first morning saw the guys get to grips with the light green Seaview Mermaid Class yacht. On the calm and picturesque Solent, the crew learnt to set up for sailing and were shortly running over the blue waters, tacking, and jibing like old sea dogs.

The following days were action packed with 5 to 6 point to point races over an exciting circuit; each race upping the technical challenge and introducing new sail configurations, with the sea conditions getting choppier by the day. As novices the guys managed to chalk up a very credible 5th place in their best race.

At the final evening social event the crew reflected on how fun and competitive the Regatta had been and are hopeful for a possible return. "It is remarkable how quickly the sailing bug grips you as you battle to get up in the scoring. We had a great time."

The Men’s Health Forum organises Men’s Health Week each year. This years campaign from 10-16 June 2024 aims to raise awareness of men’s health and to encourage all men to seek help to address any health concerns that they may be experiencing.

You may remember earlier this year when King Charles announced that he was receiving treatment for an enlarged prostate. The day after his announcement, there were 16,410 visits to the relevant National Health Service website page compared with 1,414 visits the previous day. Prostate Cancer UK saw an almost doubling in the numbers of users of its online risk checker. This just goes to show that by simply sharing or talking about an issue can have a huge effect.

Here in the UK, about 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime. Prostate cancer mainly affects men over 50, and your risk increases with age. The risk is even higher for black men and men with a family history of prostate cancer.

Here in the UK prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men.
More than 52,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year on average – that's 144 men every day. Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer – that's more than 12,000 men every year. Around 490,000 men are living with and after prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer that’s contained inside the prostate (called localised prostate cancer or early prostate cancer) doesn’t usually cause any symptoms. That's why it's important to know about your risk. But some men might have some urinary problems. These can be mild and happen over many years and may be a sign of a benign prostate problem, rather than prostate cancer.

The initial test for prostate cancer is a simple blood test, and not the invasive procedure that most men will think of.

Prostate cancer is not always life-threatening, but when it is, the earlier you catch it, the more likely it is to be cured.

If you feel you are at risk please discuss your concerns with your GP or visit: https://prostatecanceruk.org/risk-checker or https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/prostate-cancer/

Congratulations to Ollie Pinnell who completed his Reservist basic training CMSR course last weekend, passing out as a Craftsman in the REME.

Ollie joined FTX Logistics Ltd back in April 23 from a civilian HGV mechanic background, and completed the HET Maintainer course.

Ollie should also be congratulated for receiving the best field craft award and was placed highly in all other aspects of his basic training, no mean feet as he had no previous military experience.

Whilst going through his reservist basic training and battlecamp, Ollie was trained in a variety of military subjects including
Feildcraft, Skill at arms, Fitness training, Qualities of a soldier, military knowledge, battlefield casualty drills and individual health training.
