Kerensa aval

Kerensa aval Delicious home produced Cornish apple juice from our own orchards. Karensa Aval orchards lie beside the river Lynher.

Our apple trees are old Cornish varieties, from which we produce both single variety and blended juices, as well as traditional cider. There's nothing added - no sprays, the juice is heat pasteurised and bottled into two sizes of bottle and also five litre boxes. We visit farmers markets and several shops, cafeterias and pubs stock our juice. We also press juice for others - if you have your own trees nothing bring us your apples and you could enjoy your own pure apple juice.

I'm sure you will have probably all heard now the sad news that Frankie has died after a short illness. She became ill in mid June and died on the 28th. Derriford hospital did all they could, but unfortunately they were unable to save her. Frankie had undiagnosed acute leukaemia. Because her immune system was compromised she'd contracted a rare form of fungal pneumonia that was untreatable. Frankie will be buried in her orchard this Saturday, 22nd July, at 10am, and this will be followed by a celebration of her life in St Germans Priory, to which all are welcome. After the memorial service there will be a hog roast, buffet of local foods and cakes, refreshments and of course apple juice and cider. Hope to see you there.

Kirstie Francis, Manager of Fox Club - our junior wildlife club, spent the day with Clean Cornwall and Surfers Against Sewage at the Eden Project today for the launch of their campaign with the ‘Rubbish Day Out’.

As part of Clean Cornwall week, Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and Clean Cornwall launched ‘Be The Change’ education programme, which was delivered to 16 schools across Cornwall.

The schools involved were then invited to send a group of student representatives to the ‘Rubbish Day Out’. Here the schools pitched, Dragon’s Den style, to a panel of expert judges as they bid to win the inaugural ‘Be The Change Award’ where, as well as receiving a bespoke piece of artwork from Cornish glass artist Jo Downs Handmade Glass, there are two grants of £500 to support the delivery of the most ambitious and inspiring ‘Anti-Litter Action Plans’.

Panel of expert Judges included Kirstie Francis, Fox Club Manager, Cllr Joyce Duffin, Cornwall Rural Community Charity’s Amy Walker, Volunteer Cornwall’s Sam Hudspith, Professional Photographer Andy Hughes and St Ives Surf School owner Harris Rothschild.

Kirstie Francis had this to say…
“To spend a day listening to local school children from across Cornwall pitching ideas that could make a difference to reducing our litter issue in Cornwall and perhaps globally, was humbling. The fact that these children were excited, passionate and understood the major issue that rubbish causes our environment is so encouraging. Huge thanks to SAS and Clean Cornwall for asking me to be a part of it”

The main winner from the Primary Schools was Grade Ruan, and the Secondary school winner was Penair – but every school was a winner today as their ideas were all ways that can help our environment and help
