RNLI gift shop near the small car park, but there is an overflow field for parking. Food van for drinks and ice cream.
You must walk up to the lifeboat station, I think it’s open 10-4 each day. Tuesday evenings offer a chance to see the lifeboat launched. Do check their page Bembridge RNLI

A large stretch of the beach between Sandown and Shanklin is dog friendly and the revetment is a popular dog walk. The Hideaway, Shanklin as mentioned is a lovely dog friendly place to eat.

This morning I treated myself to a mango and coconut smoothie at Tradewinds. It was definitely a treat at £8, but it was delicious. (Making the most of my free time before the island schools break up)
I forget what a nice stretch of beach it is between Sandown Pier and Shanklin, which many don’t make use of. When the tide is out, you get a lovely flat sandy beach and much quieter than Sandown Beach. There is a car park up by Blueberrys Cafe, council charges apply. If I’m having lunch at the Hideaway up on the cliff, I’ll park on St Boniface Road if there’s space.

Twilight Safaris at the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary 🐯

Twilight Safaris are returning to the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary every Wednesday night this summer between 31 July and 4 September.🌙

A special opportunity to enjoy an enchanting encounter in the early evening twilight. As the sun sets over the Island and the lions begin to roar, kick back and relax alongside the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary's rescued animals as they settle down for the evening. It is a rare opportunity to see them in a completely different light.🤩

Enjoy behind-the-scenes tours and special animal encounters with the big cats, lemurs and farm animals as well as a Big Cat talk and feed. Beautiful day here in Sandown. Popped for a drink and a snack at The Beach Shack - great place to stop and enjoy the sunshine, roof terrace too.

Lovely outing to the Ventnor Botanic Gardens this week, first visit since moving over here more than two years ago. Lots of great plants and trees, plus a cafe with outdoor seating to enjoy the views.
There is a gate from the gardens to access the path down to Steephill Cove ( a 5 minute walk) and of course we had to visit the Crab Shed for some delicious pasties.

Muffin had her first visit to the beach. Mornings are my favourite time to walk on the beach, the sun was out and we all had a great time. Muffin has discovered the joy of digging in sand.
During May-Sept the dog beach restrictions apply, but as you can see on the image, Yaverland Beach only has a small exclusion area by the car park. Sandown Beach restrictions start when you reach Fort Street/Bandstand restaurant. All information is clear on ample signage.

Fun things to do on the island, part 2

Donkey Sanctuary & Appuldurcombe House
These attractions work well together as both on the same road. I did the walk between the two a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty muddy, but still a nice walk (large car parks too, so need to walk)
Both are free to enter and dogs welcome.
Appuldurcombe is closed on Saturdays for events. My boys love playing hide and seek here.
