Just returned from a great walk around Appley and St Johns which I led for Friends of Appley Park. Fantastic summer's evening and beautiful sunset. Shared stories of the history, heritage and characters that have shaped the local area. A really enjoyable evening.

Looking forward to leading our Genteel East Ryde walk for the Friends of Appley Park tomorrow at 19:30, part of the Ryde Arts Festival. A beautiful part of the Island, loved by visitors and locals alike, the whole neighbourhood has a really interesting history which we will be exploring together.

Explore Wight - Genteel East Ryde this morning. Fantastic weather, with beaches looking almost tropical and some brave souls even sunbathing. A short walk around the Appley area to look at its history and genteel past. Appley Park itself is looking good and lots of people were enjoying picnics and dog walks in this once private landscaped park, now open to all to enjoy.

Explore Wight - The Undercliff this afternoon. Excellent group able to cope with the steep ups and downs of this short but challenging walk. Enjoyed sharing stories of the picturesque landscape so much appreciated by the genteel class of the C18th and C19th who chose to build their Marine Villas in Cottage Ornee style in the beauty and mild climate of this part of the Island's landscape. Dramatic views of the coastline from above Windy Corner which lived up to its name. The closure of the Undercliff Drive to through traffic meant that walking along the road was much more pleasurable than in previous years - allowing us to focus on the tranquillity and secluded character of the area rather than worrying about on coming vehicles. A great afternoon, with much better weather than forecast. Thanks to all who joined me on the walk and hope to see you again in the future.

Explore Wight - Smugglers and Merchants walk in the Isle of Wight Walking Festival today. A good group, up for the challenge of some steep slopes and enjoying the riot of colour from the spring flowers, especially around Wydcombe and along Public Footpath NT67 and NT60 through Beech Copse and onto Head Down. The walk along the coastal path was tough against the strong gusty south west wind, forcing us to take a safer route in the field.

Nice to be able introduce locals and visitors to beautiful and secretive parts of the Island's landscape along with the more familiar dramatic views from coastal path and St Catherine's Down and Hill. And to share a few stories about the areas history, notable past residents, wildlife and landscape. The are doing a fantastic job looking after their land in the area which we all enjoyed.

Looking forward to our first walk in the Walking Festival tomorrow at 11am. Quite a few bookings but still some spaces left to join us on our Explore Wight - Abandoned Town walk around the beautiful tranquil hamlet of Newtown.
