Earlier this week we had the pleasure of working from Fanhams Hall close to Ware for the day.
What an amazing "office" we had – The Knebworth. The lovely gardens provided a tranquil place to stroll in our lunch break.
The hotel has many meeting rooms, both modern and historic - and even a room where the boardroom table converts to a ping pong table and the carpet is fake grass!
There are 77 bedrooms, some in the main Hall and the standard rooms are in the newer contemporary extension.
The largest meeting spaces are the Long Gallery and Great Hall in the original house and the Hertford & Ware in the contemporary house. These hold between 70 and 100 cabaret style. The are 18 additional rooms that are ideal for breakout spaces or smaller meetings.
As well as the room with the Ping Pong table the venue has its own Karaoke Klub that is available for private hire only.
Thank you to Annie and the team for taking care of us and showing us not only Fanhams Hall, but giving us an update on all the refurbishment work that is taking place throughout the chain.
I will be writing about the Exclusive Collection Sustainability and Environmental Policy in our next newsletter. But they are the 1st UK Chain to achieve BCorp accreditation! Fanhams Hall is one of the 7 properties in the group and Ansty Hall near Coventry is the newest (going through a refurbishment now).

Our amazing home for the day earlier this week was Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge
Right in the centre of Cambridge, Sidney Sussex can take up to 120 for dinner in their rococo College Hall. The Old Library is perfect for smaller dinners for around 60. Then there are a number of other rooms ideal for smaller groups. We were based in one of the Chapel Court Rooms perfect for 12 boardroom, with in built plasma screens.
The college has lovely gardens, which can be used for drinks receptions and BBQs.

Baby News!
We are happy to announce the safe arrival of little Axel.
Both mum and son are doing well. You can see with the look on mum and dad's faces that he is a well loved little boy 😍.
We cannot wait to meet him next week!

Thank you to Downing College, Cambridge for inviting us to their Garden Party last week.
It was a great opportunity to revisit the College's lovely grounds, meetings and events spaces. We were also able to sample the lovely food and meet the team.
The Howard Lecture Theatre was specially designed for comfort and each chair has its own tablet table - for up to 120 theatre style. Dr Alan Howard had attended many conferences around the world and when donating the money, he made it a stipulation that the seats were suitable for hours of sitting! The college has a number of other rooms that are suitable for meetings and events. Most rooms come with an adjoining room for catering and the minimum numbers are usually 20. All spaces are set in the grounds just off Downing Street. A real gem in the centre of Cambridge.
So glad the rain stayed away. We would have been OK because Richard and Amy from the Hilton Cambridge City Centre were so organised as usual and brought some spare umbrella's with them. Thanks for the team at the Hilton for looking after us so well while we worked there for the day (so we could go to the Garden Party).

A big thank you to Tracey Chatters and the great team at University Arms, Cambridge for hosting HotelRes Ltd for dinner. We were thoroughly spoilt and the food was lovely, as usual. A couple of the team indulged in a "Build Your Own Sundae" complete with traditional sweets including "Rhubarb and Custard", Shrimps and Fizzy Cola Bottles.

We also saw the hotel's new treatment rooms and relaxation suite. Guests can now book in for a number of different massages and treatments.

The University Arms, Cambridge always delivers the perfect executive experience within a very relaxed environment.

Last week we were lucky enough to be able to work from the Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa, Newmarket.

A big thank you to all for looking after us so well. It was great to catch up with the team and experience this lovely hotel from a clients' perspective.

Bedford Lodge is in a converted Georgian hunting lodge and was converted into a hotel in the 1940s. Today the hotel is a great blend of old and new, with the character of a country house and comfort of a modern boutique hotel. The hotel has 80 bedrooms with a further 3 rooms in the exclusive Mews (which also has its own private dining room). The hotel has 5 meeting rooms, the largest the Classics (which splits into 2 rooms) can hold 180 theatre style.

The Spa is separate to the hotel and has 10 treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy pool, five different water experiences, outdoor rooftop hot tub, steam room, sauna and thermal area. The Spa is very popular and has to booked in advance.

Thank you to Nathalie Jean and all the team at Red Carnation Hotels for looking after us last weekend.

We had a lovely weekend in London seeing The Rubens at the Palace, The Milestone Hotel & Residences, Chesterfield Mayfair Hotel and Montague on the Gardens Hotel.

We have always loved the chain and the service we experienced really did not disappoint. The teams all went out of their way to make us feel special. Each hotel has the feel of a small boutique hotel, with fabric covered walls and individual artworks and antiques in each room.

Below you can see pictures of us in the Log Cabin at the Montague on the Gardens, enjoying afternoon tea at The Rubens at the Palace and in the meeting room at The Milestone Hotel.

Earlier today Caroline from the HotelRes Cambridge team went to see the newly refurbished lobby at the Holiday Inn Cambridge
What a great job they have done!
Holiday Inns throughout the UK are all adopting what is called The Open Lobby Concept. They are creating a space that moves away from the traditional hotel lobby/check in area. The Open Lobby combines the front desk, lobby, restaurant, bar, lounge area and business centre into one open, cohesive space, while refreshing the design to give it a more contemporary feel. The space gives the guest a number of options - whether they’re looking to eat, relax, work, or have fun.
In the Holiday Inn Cambridge's new lobby, guests can now order from the all-day dining menu and order coffee shop style coffees. It offers the individual traveller a relaxed space to work and eat outside their room, and of course to meet with clients or colleagues.

We are looking forward to the next two brand new hotels to open in Cambridge this year. Turing Locke at Eddington, on the edge of the city centre, is due to open in September this year. There will be 180 fully fitted contemporary apartments, a seasonal roof top terrace, courtyard, restaurant, cocktail bar, coffee shop, co-working area, workout studio and meeting rooms (phew what a list!). Next door will be the 150 room Hyatt Centric Cambridge.

The area of Eddington is a new development by the University of Cambridge and will eventually also include: shops, 3000 new residential units, an arts centre, sports pitches, parkland and its own doctors surgery - a destination in its own right.

We cannot wait to see both hotels as they near completion - watch this space for more details.

Last night we were lucky enough to be invited to see The Fellows House Cambridge , Curio Collection by Hilton on its opening day. I think it fair to say we were all suitably impressed. Thank you Emma, for hosting us.

The attention to detail and creativity of the artwork and décor at this venue is amazing. From the wall art that incorporates the owner’s DNA - to the amazing ENIGMA code columns at the hotel entrance.

Everywhere you look references the city of Cambridge - bikes on the wall, paintings of university Fellows, and lines of poetry written by famous Cambridge scholars.

The hotel comprises of over 170 bedrooms, many of which are studio suites and apartments, and have their own kitchens.

The hotel is built round a central courtyard, The Fellows Garden, that can take 100 for a drinks reception. This area is cleverly designed - part is covered with a glass roof, and another section (a semi private area called the Observatory) has a solid roof with its own fire place and plasma screen for al fresco meetings and events.

The venue also boasts “Sage” - a stylish coffee shop during the
day and a wine bar in the evening - it can be hired privately. The main restaurant, “Folio”, opens on to the courtyard with
bi-fold doors. The food we experienced at the venue was amazing, the head chef, Alejandro Mayer (previously from the Four Seasons in Hampshire and a private members club in Mexico) and his team really looked after us.

The hotel only has one small meeting room (that is currently set
for 10 boardroom). However, it is possible to hire other areas for events.

Just a short walk from the river and Jesus Green, Fellows House
has its own car park. The hotel also has a gym, pool , sauna and steam room.

The final 3 stops on our walk!

The Pitt Building is a dedicated conference space in the heart of Cambridge. The building was once home of the famous Cambridge University Press (CUP) and is still owned by them. The gothic Oriel Room, which can be hired privately, is still used by CUP when the board sits to rubber stamp every book they publish. The building has 8 meeting rooms of various sizes; the largest the Darwin Room holds up to 100 theatre style or 30 in a hollow square. The team at the Pitt Building have been working hard during lockdown and have achieved both the MIA and Visit England Covid-Secure accreditations.

Peterhouse College, Cambridge was next, the oldest College in Cambridge. It was founded in 1284 by the Bishop of Ely and was granted its charter by King Edward I. Unlike some Cambridge colleges it does not have a lot of meeting and event space, and its availability is limited – however, if you are lucky enough to be able to hold a meeting or dinner with them you really will be stepping into history. The Victorian Theatre holds 180 in fixed seating. The Hall dating back to 1290 and holds up to 110 for a dinner.

Our final stop before heading home to rest our feet was Hotel Du Vin, Cambridge. The hotel is formed from a number of town house (formerly owned by the University) which has led to a very unique and quirky layout. The houses' cellars now contain the hotel's Cellar Bar. They really have made the most of all the different spaces, and the bar has a number of semi-private areas. Of course the Du Vin chain is famous for its wine and the Bistro has an impressive food and drinks menu. The hotel has 2 meeting rooms, but you can also hire the Library privately. The combination of the Library and the Lombard are ideal for private dinners for up to 24 - and pre-dinner drinks.

Stops 28 and 29 on our walk were two of Cambridge's old colleges. Both with unique spaces for conference and private dining.

Clare College is Cambridge's second oldest college. The Old Court is on the banks of the river Cam. The Gillespie Centre was opened in 2009 and is a short walk from the Old Court. Built with sustainability in mind, The Gillespie Centre uses solar thermal panels and a ground source heat pump for efficient heating and cooling. The college can easily cater for 150 delegates in a number of its meeting rooms. Many of the rooms are available in term time. The close proximity of the Old Court and Gillespie Centre, mean that during vacations both the old and new rooms can all be used by one company and the college can host large events.

King's College, Cambridge, Cambridge is perhaps one of the city's most well known, thanks mainly to the iconic Kings College chapel, started by Henry VI in 1446 and finish in 1515 by Henry VIII. The college is famous for its fine dining in the Saltmarsh Rooms. A suite of 3 interconnecting rooms that hold 30 for a seated dinner. The Saltmarsh Rooms are available all year round. The Hall that can hold up to 336 for dinner on long college tables and is everything you think of when imaging a Cambridge college hall. Why not combine your dinner with a trip to the chapel to watch evensong, or one of the many other performances.

The next few stops were all Colleges. They are looking forward to welcoming external guests once their students leave in early July.

Sidney Sussex College, University of Cambridge is surrounded by beautiful walled gardens in the heart of Cambridge. The college has rooms dating back to 1596 when the college was built and some more modern additions. They can cater for numbers of up to 100 theatre style and host up to 110 for a dinner.

Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge has 3 locations, the Old Court is off Trinity Street and the 2 newer blocks Stephen Hawking Building and Harvey Court are off West Road. The college has a number of meeting rooms ranging from the modern Cavonius Centre which holds 120 to the more traditional college rooms like the Junior Parlour that holds 12 boardroom.

Trinity Hall, Cambridge dates back to 1350 and has grounds that lead down to the River Cam. The meeting rooms range from modern to historic, ideal for dinners and meetings. They have a new purpose built conference building on Thompson's Lane called WYNG Gardens, that can seat up to 100 theatre style and has its own en-suite bedrooms (available during vacations).

Our next stop was Jesus College, Cambridge, to see their West Court facilities - including the brand new Frankopan Hall.

West Court is home to a number of meeting rooms, and 30 en-suite bedrooms that are all available throughout the year.

The Frankopan Hall is a lecture theatre that seats 150. However, the tiered seating can be retracted back into the wall - leaving a flat floor suitable for other seating styles. The hall has built in video conferencing equipment.

West Court is a separate building and ideal for exclusive residential use. The space opens out onto the college's beautiful gardens, famous for its sculptures.

Like most colleges they are planning to resume external meetings when the students leave at the end of this term.

Arundel House was stop 22 on our walk – it reopened on the 17th May. With its own car park, restaurant and meeting space (max 22 boardroom) Arundel House is a great option for those with a lower budget. The hotel overlooks the river Cam and Jesus Green and is a short walk through the park to the city centre.

The next hotel we visited was The Varsity Hotel & Spa, Cambridge, famous for its roof top terrace with spectacular views of the city. The hotel, as it name suggests, offers spa treatments, gym, sauna, steam room and whirlpool bath. The hotel’s two restaurants have stunning views. Brasserie Six has floor-to-ceiling windows - offering dinners views over the city's rooftops, and the Riverside Steakhouse and Grill, has views directly over the River Cam and passing punts. The meeting room can take 26 boardroom, but other areas of the hotel can be hired privately, including the roof terrace. The bar can be used for private meetings and holds 50 theatre style. The Varsity is close to the punt stations and a very short walk into the city centre.

Today I want to take some time out from our walk to highlight the second new hotel that is opening in Cambridge this year.

The Fellows House Cambridge , Curio Collection by Hilton, is finally opening on the 1st July 2021. It has been a construction site for a few years with the finishing touches being delayed due to the pandemic.

The Fellows House is situated 5 minutes from the city centre on the Milton Road. They will have a combination of studio and one bedroom apartments with fully equipped kitchens. The hotel will have an onsite restaurant and bar called Folio. Sage will act as a coffee shop during the day and a wine bar at night; the perfect location to meet, work and play. The hotel will have a small meeting room that fits 10 boardroom. The leisure club includes a swimming pool, gym, sauna and steam room.

We are getting a sneak peak towards the end of June and we cannot wait. Good luck to all the team on the countdown to opening day!

𝘊𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘯𝘰𝘯-𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘭. 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘨𝘦, 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘯.

On with our visits to the "college" area of Cambridge.

First stop was Churchill College (Cambridge), one of the more modern Cambridge Colleges, with some amazing pieces of art. One of the private dining spaces has a set of Andy Warhol paintings!

Very close by are Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge and Murray Edwards College.

Murray Edwards College Cambridge have 2 self contained conference centres. They have the second largest collection of art by women in the world and have beautiful gardens, both can add something a little different to your conference or dinner.

Møller Institute is on the same site as Churchill College, but run as state of the art all year round conference centre. When we visited they were still closed patiently a waiting the return of live events. We are pleased to say they are now open and standing ready to welcome delegates back. The rooms all have built in AV and are perfect if you still have delegates who have to join remotely.

The final stop in this area was Westminster College, Cambridge.

The colleges are all hoping to be able to welcome external events after the students have left in July.

Our next stops were a couple more colleges. Selwyn College Cambridge and Robinson College, Cambridge. Both are closed to external visitors currently and hope to be able to start running events again from July/August.

Robinson College has a purpose built conference centre that is normally available all year round. The Crausaz Wordsworth Building comfortably seats 80 cabaret style and has a large breakout room, which can be split into 3 different spaces. The large lobby is ideal for small exhibitions and opens out onto a private patio, ideal for drinks and canapes before a dinner.

Selwyn College has a new Auditorium, which is a great addition to their conference spaces. They hope to welcome external meetings from late summer.

The colleges in this area of Cambridge all have gardens that can be used by conference delegates.

𝘊𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘯𝘰𝘯-𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘭. 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘨𝘦, 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘯.

The next area of our walk took in all the colleges on the other side of the river.
We visited Mel at Newnham College, Cambridge, who took us through to the colleges extensive gardens and sports fields. The grounds are all available to hire for team building, BBQs and drinks receptions. Newnham had just completed a new meeting room and bedroom block, the Dorothy Garrod Building in late 2018. The main room can take 150 theatre style and all rooms have natural daylight. The meeting rooms are normal available all year round and the 81 en-suite bedrooms are available in the vacation periods. Even the Victorian main hall can be hired during term time.
Currently the hotel is closed to all external visited, but they hope to welcome all back from July.
This year is also the college's 150th birthday. So happy birthday Newnham college.

𝘊𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘯𝘰𝘯-𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘭. 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘨𝘦, 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘯.

After a few days of hotels on the outskirts we are back to highlighting the hotels and venues in the centre of Cambridge.

The next stop our our Reconnect Cambridge Walk was the Graduate Hotels Cambridge. The former Doubletree Cambridge City. The hotel is currently closed undergoing a complete transformation. It was still a building site on the 4th May, with the new lobby a big hole! They are adding a whole new leisure centre including a pool. The meeting space will still be one of the largest in the city holding up to 300 for a reception. Their new destination restaurant has a nod to the hotels past with its name The Garden House.

We really cannot wait to have a preview in late June early July. We have managed to get some sneak peak pictures. Currently the hotel is looking like it will be opening its doors in July.
