The Magic of Spurn. Over three months of this autumn It was massive a joy to lead many tours on the Humber and at Spurn alongside my fabulous guides Mark James Pearson and Johnny Mac.

We had a fantastic time. Great guests sharing our love of the area and its wildlife and loads of bird highlights from the thrill of seeing thrushes pour out of the sky to watching some very special rarities, and we clocked up 165 species. Here is my new blog which tells our story. Great memories! https://www.yorkshirecoastnature.co.uk/blog/530/the-magic-of-spurn-autumn-birding-tours-2024

Day four guiding on our Spurn Migrants Yorkshire Coast Nature birding tour. A short afternoon trip to Weeton Outstrays provided fantastic views of a male Hen Harrier which flew right past us. Shortly afterwards we found a female Hen Harrier, three Marsh Harriers and a Short-eared Owl. Two hours in raptor heaven and very happy guests.

Today ends another classic Yorkshire Coast Nature Birding Discovery Week at Spurn and on the Humber. Migrants galore. A final tally of 104 species with many highlights.

Guiding my five day group of seven guests we have had some wonderful encounters. Hen Harrier, Marsh Harriers, Long-eared Owl, Short-eared Owl, Pallas's Warbler, Yellow-browed Warblers, Hawfinch, Visible migration of thousands of Redwings arriving from over the North Sea and yesterday thousands of wildfowl including an American Wigeon.

On our last evening outside the best birding pub in the world The Crown and Anchor we watched Comet A3 above the Humber capping off a fantastic week. Best of all Mark James Pearson and I were blessed with lovely clients who were a joy to be birding with. We are back a week after next for another five days.
