Hot hot hot 🥵

This week is going to be an absolute scorcher, and I know a lot of you are being sensible and getting up at the crack of dawn to ride your precious steeds before it gets unbearably hot.

We currently have 22 horses in training (including my own). Obviously, with this many it is just not possible to ride them all early morning before it gets too hot. On Friday, we had a horse come down with heatstroke after a 35 min hack (mostly in walk), and once we got back the horse collapsed in the yard. He was not struggling on the hack, and was walking out quite happily, but clearly he did not cope in the heat. Luckily we managed to cool his body temperature down and after drinking salt water he was bright as a button again, but it was scary to watch. It was only 25 degrees, not as hot as this week will be.

Therefore, this week we will be taking it in turns on who gets ridden early and who has the day off in their nice cool stables. Keeping horses happy and comfortable is my top priority and will always come first above training. A one week break from training is not going to set any horse back, but working in extreme temperatures will.

Enjoy the sun guys and make sure your horses have access to shade and fresh water at all times - and remember unless you know your stable stays cool in the heat, sometimes it’s better to leave horses OUT than in a sauna like stable! ☀️ ###

We've seen such an amazing response to British Equestrians for Ukraine, which launched just over a week ago 🤩

Thanks to your generosity and that of equestrian organisations throughout our industry, we've so far raised a massive £100,000 in donations and received around £90,000-worth of feed and bedding! 😲😲😲

Working in collaboration with the Ukrainian Equestrian Federation and trusted partners in countries around Ukraine, we’re liaising with those on the ground to develop logistics and supply chains to ensure that the supplies of food, bedding and veterinary supplies are distributed in the country from the drop-off points in Poland.
