Thank you to everyone who came to a talk and has helped make this possible!

They're here!
🔵🔵🔵

The twelve plaques for the Woodseats History Trail have arrived. This is the first, and last time they'll all be seen together!

Tomorrow they will be starting to go out to their allotted sites and will all be in place by the launch on Saturday 19th October. (I hope!!)

A huge thanks to Stephen at Ridgequest Signs for the usual impeccable quality.

Thank you to everyone who attended tonight's talk. I hope you all enjoyed hearing about the people and places of this interesting city.

Please keep an eye on my socials for details on any more upcoming talks.

Thank you to Herd Woodseats for hosting me. Check them out if you're in the area, or even if you're not, what an amazing vibe they have going on.

Bonus points if anyone can guess what the building in the image is now?

I'm currently in the process of putting together a Woodseats History Trail which will involve a series of small plaques on various buildings of historic significance (see rough mock ups as possible examples.)

Much more information including old photos will be on leaflets that will be available from some businesses in Woodseats and there will be a large board with the same details in a central location. (Also possibly an app or link to a website, but I could do with getting in touch with anyone who has knowledge in that department as I don't!!)
The idea is to provide some history of the area for those interested whilst increasing the footfall in Woodseats, perhaps eventually leading to walking groups and school walks.
I can think of 10 sites, not including Painted Fabrics (which has had a plaque for some time), but could you give me your thoughts to see if you agree with the locations. I'm sure there's some I've missed, or perhaps I'm putting emphasis on some that others would find boring.
They have to be in the main area as part of the intention is to help the businessess in Woodseats itself.
Mine are:
1: Painted Fabrics (already there.)
2: The Abbey.
3: Coldstream Place.
4: The Big Tree.
5: Site of Cobnar Works & Linacre Row.
6: Chantrey Picture House.
7: Chantrey Arms.
8: Top of the Dale (oldest bldg in Woodseats)
9: Woodseats Palace.
10: Woodseats School.
11: Double Six Club.
Any help and suggestions will be gratefully received.
Thank you.

A huge thank you to everyone who turned up for today's unveiling. Here's a quick video of the actual unveiling but more photos and videos to follow I'm sure. Thank you Andy Kershaw for all your hard work, the building owners, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield Lord Mayor and everyone who came down to see it.

Today's the day! Today we unveil the new blue plaque on the site of the former Marples Hotel at 11.30am which reads 'On this site stood the Marples. During WW2 on the 12th Dec 1940 a bomb destroyed the building killing an estimated 70 people who were sheltering in the cellars.'
I have been on this morning, if you want to listen it's on BBC Sounds at 7:40ish
Can't wait to see you all there!
