Have you been to Sherborne at Christmas?🎄

Our utterly stunning town comes into its own at this time of year. Just a wander around on a crisp evening is enough to make it worth the trip, with the lights of the abbey twinkling and the tree lined high street.

The festive display at our garden centre will take an hour of exploring and you won’t beat it for Christmas immersion: there’s a talking reindeer, singing penguins and a model train making its way around a winter wonderland.

The incredible monthly market makes its final outing of the year on the 15th: local artisan traders offering their wares, delicious street food and lots of festive atmosphere.

Cosy cosy cosy.

Warm lights, huge soft towels, sumptuous bedding, king bed, monsoon shower, luxury bathroom products, cosy slippers, underfloor heating…

Bring on the winter in The Snug.

Is there a better feeling than a long muddy walk followed by a long hot shower and a snuggle in fresh sheets?! I would take some convincing.

What’s your holiday treat breakfast?

You can serve it up before heading out for the day: your Snug kitchen is the definition of small but perfectly formed!

✅ olive oil, salt and pepper (grindy and ground)
✅ a selection of teas and coffees, supporting local businesses and charities
✅ fridge with small freezer compartment
✅ microwave, kettle and toaster
✅ portable two ring hob
✅ plenty of cutlery, crockery and pans.

A new addition thanks to Terri Peay Illustration, local artist (so local I was at school with her brothers!). It’s looking lovely with the side lights on ready for this week’s guest.

With hares often spotted in the back field, I thought this one was perfect 💙

It’s one of my great joys in sharing The Snug that I get to share everything from artists to cafes and bakers to chocolatiers with you.

Have you seen one of these before?

Looking for a toasty winter stay - The Snug is perfect. With oodles of insulation, double glazed new hard wood windows and cosy underfloor heating throughout, it’s warm and comfy even at the chilliest times of year.

I thought you might be interested to see the pipes under the floor - I think they’re so fascinating!

Our ground source heat pump heats the water and then sends it around these pipes. They’re fitted at a high density to basically make the floor into an enormous radiator, so that the system can run at a lower, more efficient temperature.

Winning for the environment and your toasty toes! 🥰

It doesn’t look pretty, but the heating and hot water system, and the huge amount of insulation we installed are key in making us as eco friendly as we can be.

Have you noticed pages and people you used to follow on Facebook don’t always pop up now? I find it a bit annoying, but I have a solution…

If you don’t interact with them (by liking, commenting and clicking) then Facebook learns that you’re not interested and shows you less and less. If you’re not careful, your feed can end up being heavy on the adverts and light on the interesting stuff!

I’ve fallen behind with posting since Ted came along and the posts aren’t getting seen by many people as a result.

Oxfords Bakery is a half hour walk from us and Lennie is delighted to tell you that they not only have a cafe, delicious bread (that you’ll get in your welcome hamper too) but also a play area.

And Frazer likes the coffee too…. 😊

🎶 How do you like your eggs in the morning? 🎶

We’re really proud of the hamper we prepare for all our direct guests: it’s yummy and local too!

Bread, eggs, milk, butter, jam or marmalade, fruit from the garden, apple juice, a treat (this year it’s been fudge), a gorgeous selection of teas and coffees, plus sugar and hot chocolate.

We also stock olive oil, salt and pepper in The Snug.

But I’ve been wondering about condiments and found these lovely little jars… if you’re making eggs on toast, are you having ketchup or brown sauce? And would it be a nice touch to have one of these little jars within your hamper?

All thoughts welcome… Thanks Snug fans!

🎄 If you’re looking for an excuse to visit beautiful Dorset, you won’t find much better than the brilliant monthly The Sherborne Market and their Christmas markets in Sherborne and locally too.

I bloomin love a festive market! You? I might use the Wi******er Christmas market as a reason for a night away this year 😊

Some more home grown produce! 🙌 Would love to see your gardened goodies? What’s your favourite thing to grow?

I’m no photographer but for some reason I really liked this autumnal scene today. Not as gorgeous as my other produce this summer (Ted 💙) but attractive nonetheless. Now curing in the shed ready for tasty meals through winter. I love growing onions because they’re so easy and they go in everything!

We love sharing produce with our guests. At the moment it’s blackberries but they’ve enjoyed strawberries, raspberries and tomatoes this year. Apples are the next harvest.
