Originally owned by the noble Gentile family, the shrine gained fame in 1883 when Karmela Grima heard the Virgin Mary's voice, leading to her miraculous recovery. This divine event transformed Ta' Pinu into a pilgrimage site, prompting the construction of the magnificent Romanesque church you see today ⛪

Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis have both visited this sacred site, while Pope Benedict XVI presented a golden rose, a rare papal gift, to honor the shrine.
